Uberti Walker Question - Wedge Tightness

"Silver soldering" usually requires a small torch or something similar to heat the alloy to around 800-850°F. The problem is that at those temperatures you can effect the steel tempering, so you run the risk of annealing (softening) the arbor.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about soldering the shim in. The process of force fitting then filing it down to fit will hold it place just fine, then when you put the wedge in, it really has no place to go.

Well I made the wedge yesterday and man, it didnt take much. I had to end up cutting the wedge in half (half the diameter of the arbor) in order to even get the wedge started. I also had to fatten in out with a ball peen hammer to get the penny thinner. I didnt solder it yet Joe, so nothing to report on that. It is really tight now, no more wiggle in the barrel. Kevin.
