What's all this talk about the new mini-14 ( Tactical ) costing 1,000 or 1,100 dollars........... I just picked one up last week for $690.00 out the door and no , you cannot pick up a AR-15 with the bells and whistles on it anymore for less than $1,100.00..........so it really depends on what you are going to use that particular rifle for when it comes to just how accurate that rifle needs to be. I have a DPMS AR-15, but I really liked the looks and the way the new Ruger felt in my hands, the collapsable/ folding stock on it makes it very versatile. Let's face it , the Ruger is for your close in work, the AR is for your more long range work.......................

The main difference I truthfully believe in the quality and accuracy difference at some point in time from the past with Ruger barrels has to do with them buying barrels hammer forged by another company.
Later models had barrels hammer forged by Ruger, after they purchased their own multi million dollar equipment. I have a barrel made by ruger on my bolt action rifle, and an old mini-14 with bad accuracy after the first shot. You can see a difference in the appearance of each, and the tolerances are much better in the bolt action. Im sure the improved barrel design helps alot.

Wanna know about mine?

So I OWN one of these things, and my knowledge actually extends beyond theory. It works GREAT. My AR obsessed buddy was talking trash about it at the range, so I gave him a demo. I blasted 60 rounds through it to get the barrel good and hot. Then I tossed a gatorade bottle about 20 feet down range. I plinked the thing all the way down to 100 yards. I'm of the mind (and have a little professional experience to back it up) that anyone who believes they need MOA accuracy in a defensive carbine has too much time on their hands. But I can personally vouch for the Minute of Bottle accuracy.

64oz or 24oz?

I'm happy with the accuracy of my older Mini 14 and Mini 30. Even happier with their dependability and their ability to function well, minus the tedious TLC required to operate anything based on the AR 15. Just my opinion.

Accuracy off a range bag was 3.0 to 4.63 inches at 100 yards.
Which is a 50% improvement over my 188-series (1989-ish) Ranch Rifle, which shot a best ever group of 5.5" at 100 yards from a rest and rear bag. I suspect the new Ruger would do better with a bit of load selection.
