£9m Lotto winner in firearms probe
Apr 4 2004

A former dustman who won a £9.7 million National Lottery jackpot has been questioned following the discovery of "firearm-related items" in a house, police sources said .

Michael Carroll, 21, of Swaffham, Norfolk, was questioned on Saturday before being released on police bail without charge.

A police spokesman would only said that a 21-year-old man had been arrested and released.

But sources said the man was Mr Carroll, who won his prize in November 2002.

Translation Note: a "Dustman" is the UK term for what most Americans refer to as a "Garbage Man"!

My questions on this one are the same as what was asked on KBA.com.
  • Why was this Mans Home Searched in the first Place?
  • What are these So-called "Firearms Related Items", and why did they Warrant Arresting a Man over?
  • Does Winning a Lottery or Prize automatically make you a Target for the Police to search your Home?
Something about this seems VERY Fishy....:scrutiny:

Airstrip One wants thier money back, and trumped up charges are the good way of doing it. Too bad he didn't take his money and flee to America...

Zedicus,

i) the man's home was searched after he was photographed (by a neighbour) waving a handgun around - a gun which seems to have been a blank-firer, hence his being released without charge. This search would have taken place after a warrant had been sworn out by a magistrate, probably under the Firearms Act 1968 (as amended). Given Carroll's history (see below) this was a wise move (he would be banned from possessing a Firearms Licence because of his past criminal behaviour);

ii) Michael Carroll is awaiting trial for recieving stolen goods, and is a self-confessed cocaine addict, to say nothing of being currently serving a driving ban (he has no licence, or insurance despite having nine million pounds of Lottery money in the bank). As a result, the US can have him (though, due to his criminality, he wont get in);

Really, you and KABA should pick better examples, or at least do a Google news search before posting this kind of rubbish.
