Ukraine to Grant Citizens Right to Bear Arms

As I understand it they are only handing out weapons to people who are veterans of the Ukrainian armed forces and those civilians who have already taken their “ crash” course in firearms handling. They also called up their reserves males from 18 to 60. The Ukraine has a history of effective partisan resistance in the Second World War. If the Russians go for the cities then these irregular troops can cause myriad problems and casualties. It’ll make it more costly for the Russians.
I’m sure any other old vets here would respond to the call if it was our country in trouble. We may not be 18 or even 40 anymore but we can still shoot etc. and many of us don’t need to go farther than the next room to arm up.

1 million men taking one shot and hitting would make a huge dent in any army. One shot people. Take it!

If they're willing to stand up and fight and die for their independence, I feel like we owe them support though I don't see how we can openly support them against Russia without risking open warfare with the second most advanced nuclear superpower on earth. The Russians are no joke. An overt act of war would be extremely risky for the entire world but my gut tells me, we have already provided them with the materials that they will need and there is a "pipeline" to provide more or maybe I'm just hoping that we have. Regardless, this is the most dangerous situation the planet has been in since...the Cuban missile crisis and we have to consider that this situation is going to get way the heck out of control and maybe quickly.

It worked for Sweden. Having a citizen army where every time an invader steps out of his tank to pee some kid half a kilometer away takes two shots and disappears can be a big deterrent.

Sweden hasn't fought a war in years (did have snipers in Afghanistan, IIRC). In WWII, they were neutral but cooperated with the Germans on various issues and supplies. Allow troop movement across Northern Sweden. In the Cold War, they maintain a very large air force with planes equal to anyone's and some really innovative armor. They had and maintain a modern navy. They were not defended just by a militia system. Currently, they are rebuilding their coastal missile defenses.

Putin invaded Ukraine when Joe was VP and then again when he was POTUS. Putin does not seem too impressed with Joe Biden.I don't think any US soldier should be placed in harm's way over any of this, not when the stench of corruption is covering every aspect of this mess. And how much money have our NATO allies given to Putin to fund his war machine? Billions. This isn't our fight. Let Europe sort it's problems out. I like the Ukrainian people just fine but this is their fight, not ours and there's just no going to war against another nuclear power let alone a nuclear superpower like Russia or China. It can not be done, not openly or directly anyways without risking nuclear war. And again, Europe had zero problem buying Putin's oil. Europe can sort this **** out as they see fit. If they wish to enact article 5, then God help us all. Regardless, Biden assured us that Putin knew better than to mess around on his watch. He called Trump "Putin's puppy" and said Putin knew that Joe wouldn't take any "stuff" from him. Well Putin didn't gain an inch of ground under Trump and he gained the Crimean peninsula and now all of the Ukraine under Joe Biden and now Joe Biden's gonna have to answer for that from now until November, 2024. This is not a small screw up, it is a disaster that's gonna drag on for years and he owns it. And anyone that values the 2A should be screaming this on every social media site that they have available to them.

I am sure that fighters and weapons are flowing over the Polish and Hungarian borders. Politically they also hate Putin, historically they all have ties. Just like the Battle of Britain or the Flying Tigers they are getting reinforced. Ukraine and it’s neighbors knew this was coming. I would be willing to bet some of their Tanks and Aircraft are hidden in bordering countries.
