I was looking for magwell cut grips to fit a 1911 and was pretty settled on getting Hakan Pek to whip up a pair of desert ironwoods but I never got a response to him and further searching various boards and the Internet turned up that he has some medical problems so his volume has slowed considerably. All the info I could find is several months old so I am not aware of his current condition. I would comission him and pay in advance if he can accept it but since I haven't established contact, I can't say.
Anyhow, I was looking for other sources and custom makers when I found this on Gunbroker...
$44,000 buy it now.
Interesting that no actual history or story is set behind this piece.
Even more interesting is someone invested the money for something like that to be comissioned.
As a sidenote, are there any 1911 makers that work with highly figured cocobolo or desert ironwood? I've narrowed it down to these two woods if I am to use wood at all. Hakan is the only one I'm aware of that has exactly what I had in mind in terms of wood and texturing shape/size: http://www.imageseek.com/hakan/albums/1911/Cimg5072.jpg
