goodness gracious
Alliance Armament now makes a 30 round drum for the saiga-12
30 rounds of 12 gauge before a magazine swap
this sounds like the gun to have defending yourself in a katrina like breakdown of society

any thoughts?

My thoughts are that AA is a shady and disreputable company that has a track record of making inferior products. I would be highly skeptical of the practicality of a 30 round drum from a reputable company the fact it is from AA only makes me that much more dubious. Will I have to get my gun custom fitted to their product on this one too?

I suggest people research this company before sending any of their money to them.

ok maybe the gun isnt for little old ladies and school boys
but if you are a large man proportionately it would be no different than an average man with a garand or m1a

plus this is more for defense of the homestead rather than for carrying to the top of a rocky mountain

fully loaded it would be in the 14 lb range... its not the wiehgt, its where its located.

I have the MD Arms 20 round drum for my Saiga-12....and it's awkward enough as is to reach around the drum to grab the forgrip.... but a 30 round monstrosity? I cant even imagine the poor ergonomics!

Their drums do not work period, well maybe as a doorstop. The MD Arms 20 round drum is the only quality 100% functional Saiga 12 drum on the market.

I gotta think for 99% of we closet Rambos, in 99% of the cases, if the first 2 or 3 don't do it, the remainder won't make a bit of difference. The idea is to get away and/or stay from trouble in Katrina type situations. There are way more than enough other things to worry about in those times.

Get a Mossbert, or an 870 and be happy.

Urban defense weapon... probably an AR-15... if things were really going to get bad...

Then again, if you really want to avoid sh*t hitting the fan, you should get in your car, and drive.

Can you imagine carrying that thing for more than 400 yards, then you have to shoulder and aim the thing, by the time the sights are on target the target is another 400 yards down the road. :banghead:

I have to agree with that.

At least a rifle of some kind, so you have better then across the street maximum range.
Even a .22RF or 30-30 would beat a shotgun every time.
Heck, even a magnum class hunting handgun would be better.

During the Katrena break-down, people were getting shot at with scoped bolt-actions from roof tops a long ways off.

No shotgun is going to help you there at all.
But especially a cylinder bore AK version with a drum mag that doesn't work!

I guess if I have a Saiga 12 an Ar15 (with irons) and an M1A (scoped) then I should be all set? (not to mention the 870s and 11-87 for hunting)

snipers during Katrina?

>>>During the Katrena break-down, people were getting shot at with scoped bolt-actions from roof tops a long ways off.<<<<<

This is the first I have heard about people being sniped in Katrina
any more info on this?

It's somewhere on youtube.

Dude's from this neighborhood formed a "GET OFF MY LAWN" posse and shot anyone that came close.

Apparently another guy was shot by an unknown shooter in that same neighborhood.

I tend to avoid threads with "Ultimate" in the title...

However....

When it comes to defensive weaponry, reliability is of utmost importance. A single shot that works every time beats a 40 round mag with a 5% glitch rate all to heck.

And, how many of you folks have ever humped through the tules with a 15 lb weapon?

Heck, weeping and moaning arose from most folks who had to tote an M-14. That's about 10 lbs curb ready.

"Ultimate _______" usually equals "fail".

There is no ultimate. There are too many variables. Everything is a trade-off. Understand what you're getting. Know what you're losing.

Carry on.
