I have been thinking about PCP air guns for some time and have been looking at a lot of different makes and types, but was hesitant to jump in and spend 7 or 8 hundred or much more only to find out that keeping them fed with air is a big PITA.
So I set my sights lower at the entry level guns and started looking at them.

Well, I was on my way to a job and it started raining hard, so I swung into an Academy Outdoor store to pick up some rain gear and there on the shelf was a new Umarex Origin and it was calling my name, so I walked out with rain gear and a PCP rifle.

As I said, I was on my way to an out of town job and it was actually one of several that were going to keep me on the road for a month, so I just the week berfore last got around to mounting an optic and trying it out

I think I am hooked now. For an entry level gun this thing is pretty amazing. Very accurate and lots of power. Yes it is a bit of a chore to pump up with the hand pump, but I have just been pumping the night before and then go out to my little 25 yard back yard range and go through 5 magazines and still have air left if I want to load a couple more.
And did I mention that it is a good shooter?

This was at 25 yard off a bench rest.
Next I need to mow down some more scrub and try it out at 50 yards.

Lots of choices for compressors. Ranging from just under $300 for Chinese crap and higher priced Chinese crap wrapped in name brands.
And then there are the really expensive ones that are capable of charging scuba or respirator tanks.

At this point in time, the hand pump is adequate for me. My gun has a relatively small tank that only takes 113 pump to fill from empty, but I never shoot it to empty, so 50 or so pumps gets me to 3600 psi and gives me a little workout at the same time.

Somewhere down the road, I'll probably pick up one of the mid priced 12 volt portable compressors, but that will be when I get the FX that I have been drooling over.

I cleared off a lane out to 100 yards and set a 6 inch target this morning and put 10 shots into it.

Don't bother about a compressor.
Get a used scuba tank, can be had for a song from some 40 yo who did the training, bought all the gear and realized that he'd rather have a speedboat

My fire department will fill them for a reasonable cost.
You will eventually have to reproof them, when you do that ask them to reclassify your bottle for commercial use.
That will give you 10 years between proofing instead of 5 and will let you fill them with regular air and not high filtered breathing air which is much cheaper.

Great shooting jmohme. I have been mulling over a PCP for awhile. I'm goin to check with my fire station to see how they may help. Thanks for that info Ryden.

Your welcome

There are probably many other venues, especially if you only need technical high pressure air (or whatever the proper name may be).

Edit
When I read my previous post I get the feeling that I'm saying that filtered breathing air is cheaper, obviously it's the other way around, duh...
