Art, it actually comes from experience. I was a grunt with the 4th INF DIV 1n 1968 and know full well the devistation of the M193.I have access to a supply of UMC and was wondering if the bullets were the same. I know that some ammo that is 55 grain FMJ will not react as the 55 grain FMJ in the M193. Thanks, Byron
Hokay. It's just that bullet design has as much--if not more--effect on wound/kill/ruination as does velocity. A bullet design that tumbles and readily fragments doesn't necessarily have to be going faster than a bullet which is designed to hold together better...
M193 (Winchesters Q3131A) runs about 3250 from a 20" AR. I bought some UMC back during the whole sniper thing just for the perversity of watching the clerks jaws drop when I asked for some .223. I'll run it through the Chrony and see how quick it moves.
Bullet construction is the big variable. These remingtons are cannelured, but I haven't sectioned one. If you section one, I might be able to find a Winchester component bullet to section for comparison. PM me if interested.
