Id

I do not know the law and regs,
A friend that has since moved to Baton Rouge,Has a bank acc with Union Planters and we used to go in there. He never produced any id ,he had some sort of paper card the bank give him.
He told them if they ever ask for his DL he was gone.
I imagined they have a way to let you i n there a bank if you have money.
I would like to read up on this,.

I dropped the guy a line, just to let him know he had support "out there" <eom>

A number of folks have asked, "How can you follow the law, if you don't know what the law is?"

A more troublesome question (to me) is, "How do I know the law really is a law, and not just something some pointy-headed "security agent" made up on the spot?"

For example: Here in Florida, it's legal to carry a loaded firearm in your vehicle. If you ask around, nearly every cop you ask will tell you about the "three-step-rule" where it MUST take you three steps (or actions) to gain access to said firearm. If you can get the firearm in hand, ready to fire, in two steps, you can be arrested. The problem with that is this "rule" is a complete fiction. It's not in any Florida Statute, or code. It only exists in the minds of those particular officers. Still, I know a man who was arrested, had to make bail, and hire an attorney (at his own expense) and still has a record of a felony arrest (without conviction) for violating the "three-step rule"...

ceetee,

Still, I know a man who was arrested, had to make bail, and hire an attorney (at his own expense) and still has a record of a felony arrest (without conviction) for violating the "three-step rule"...

Then he should have sued for false arrest. Am I wrong? Comments from the wise solicited.

...many of them dead wrong.

Matt, good catch on Schneier, I hadn't read that particular piece of his. I usually follow his views on tech security and I remembered an article or two in the past about airline "security", hence the link.

Here's the Ayn Rand quote

"Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We WANT them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted -- and you create a nation of law-breakers -- and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with."

-- Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged

I'm glad that Gilmore is bringing this suit. There is no freedom in this country if some goon in a uniform can say "the law says X" or "the regulations state Y" IF YOU CAN'T KNOW WHAT THE FRIGGIN' LAW OR REGULATIONS ACTUALLY STATE! I hope that he wins, and forces the law/regulations to be published (if they actually exist). Freedom DEMANDS open government - whereas secret laws DEFINE a tyranny.

********Bank with NO ID EVERY TIME

How's he have a bank account without an ID?

this is so simple , and so sad because it shows how few people still use small banks.
FIRST = the guy already had the acct, obviuosly to get u pto $30 million.

SECOND= when you have $30 MILLION , they know you at the bank.

you dont need id.
IAM BROKE= BUT i look funny, i use a tiny bank, they chat with me=

when you walk in and the tellers and MAnager all say
"hello Andrew!" do you think i have to show them id for anything???

i have cashed $1500 money orders, not even a blink,.

the Human Brain is a very good ID authenticator !!!!

I really like this article , very scary . i dont like where we are headed one bit.
