Exact copy of the Ithica . . .These shotguns are some of the best we've seen. Each 12 gauge holds 5 rounds with a heat shield on 18-1/2" barrel and ghost ring sights! Tough black synthetic stock with black matte finish!
Anyone seen one of these? Price is $169.95 at Southern Ohio Gun. Who makes them, and are they any good?

They're made in China, of indefinite quality metal, by slave labor. For a few bucks more, you can find a used PD turnin Ithaca 37, Remington 870, etc, that will last generations with care. I'd buy American....

Centerfire Systems (1-800-950-1231) has what looks like the same gun for $129, without the heat shield.
I've been curious about these guns for a while, but haven't bought for two reasons.

1. After they carried them for about a year, they advertised a bunch of them as "Gunsmith Specials" for a really cheap price. These were guns that had been sold, then were returned broken.
2. They advertised some Chinese O/U shotguns that looked really sharp, for around $129 each.
I worked with a FFL at the time, so he ordered 6 for some of us at work.
I don't know if anybody else shot theirs or not.
I took mine to the range to pattern it.
After about 12 shots, it started getting hard to break open.
After about 4 more, I ejected the empties, and the gun wouldn't close. I could see bent "metal" in the action. I sent it back for a refund.
Later they advertised a bunch of the O/U shotguns as "Gunsmith Specials".

I'm going to look for a used 870.

Not necessarily. In more civilized areas, sure, but in my neck fo the northwoods... There are NO used police style shotguns in ANY of the few stores in my area. Not one. I looked.

I wanted a pump shotgun, with an 18" barrel, steel receiver, ghost ring sights, and a capacity of more than 4+1. A Remington 870 police would've cost me almost $500.

I bought a Norinco 98 with ghost ring sights for $250 including taxes. You're simply not going to get a shotgun with those kinds of sights for that kind of money.

As for the stuff being made in China...true enough, but so are my shoes, my clothes, and probably half of everything I own.

If you can find a good used one, go for that, if only for the more abundant accessories and parts.
