Saw a post somewhere where a person used uncooked rice for tumbling media. Does anyone here have any exp. with this? How does it work for you

I tried it with mixed results the cases did clean up pretty nicely but it is dusty in the extreme and some rice got wedged in the primer pocket and fflash holes. I wont bother with it again but it wasnt the worst thing ive tried so far.
Plain old corncob is cheap enough that ill just stick with it.

Plain old Zilla brand Lizard Litter from the pet shop is fairly fine ground walnut, and works better then any media I have ever used. Too small to get stuck in the flash holes even.

I tried it years ago, it works OK, but as already said its dusty. I'd suggest you either use what rcmodel says or corn cob from drillspot. Approx $25.00 for a 40 lb. bag shipped free.

I would think unless you are a Cajun rice farmer, white rice costs more the tumbler media.

Rice grains are too soft for use as a tumbling media. You would experience a lot of dust.

Eat the rice, it will give you enough energy to walk to the closest gas station and pick up enough pennys to pay for decent media.

There really isn't much room to save money on the least expensive part of reloading. Now make bullets out of rice and we can talk about saving some money.

I did use some white rice a few months ago. I let them tumble for about 30-45 min. Not worth it. While the rice does change color, The brass barely gets cleaner really. It does get stuck in the flash hole and is kinda annoying but nothing serious.

Now, I just use corn cob and you can tell they shine pretty good for about 30-45 min in the tumbler.

Bottom Line - Don't waste good rice. Just get the corn cob or the lizard pet bedding, You will be much happier.

I used rice once and left it overnight, and it worked ok. But it was apparent that if your brass was really stained it wouldn’t work. My brass was just single shot brass I kept in the cabinet for a few months. I defiantly will look into something better. Rice works in a pinch and if leave it for 12-24hrs.

Dprice,

The price on stainless media is so much more expensive than anything else used, it's useless to suggest it in a "budget" media thread. In any case if you get it from pelletsllc.com instead of the outlet you linked you can get twice as much for the same price.
