Is ther anyone in the States doing this conversion on either a Browning BLR or the Marlin underlever .44 magnum with the box magazine? There are one or two gunsmiths in England who have done some in the past, but none available at the moment. I come to the States at least once a year, so would be interested in acquiring one if there is one out there.

Mike

I saw a Browning BLR in.223 (or .22-250) with a large curved magazine underneath, but it was in Australia. Been a while.

The Southern Gun Company in the UK makes a lever-action AR-15 in .30 carbine. Not quite a .44 mag in terms of ballistics and not quite a Marlin in appearance but it's lever action and uses a mag...

I've seen a Winchester 94 I think it was, that was converted to use a box mag back in the 20's but nothing recently I'm afraid.

Also, I'm not sure how you will bring back a rifle from the States, you would need an importing license in the UK (which I think it's safe to say you're not going to get :p) and a green card or hunting license in the US. Unless you're buying the rifle in the UK and taking it to the States, but you probably need a hunting license or some such to even do that. And there might well be problems like needing to get it proofed on its return to the UK - though that might only be if you're selling it.

Semi auto rifles are illegal in the UK unless they are chambered for .22 rimfire. He could get a straight-pull AK or AR but those would be neither leve action nor chambered for a pistol cartridge.

I did think of one other thing: Armalon do Enfield carbines chambered in all manner of pistol calibers ranging from .22 LR to .50 AE, including .44 magnum. They're bolt action, but they use removable pistol magazines and come in wooden stocks (though polymer ones are available).

Lever action rifle with extended magazine

There are two companies in the UK that have tinkered with extended box magazines on lever action rifles, usually the browning BLR, and usually using 44 magnum, .45 Winchester Magnum or putatively .30 MI cartridge, but none of them are currently in production. The Companies are Armalon and Cotswold Arms. I am interested in this set up because I do a lot of practical underlever shooting at my gun club and I am fed up with messing about loading individual cartridges into a tube mag. I think this is the way to go with under-levers since they are the fastest loading centrefire rifles currently available in the UK under the current legislation. We do use long-barrel revolvers as well, but to my mind they are something of a hybrid and I personally don't rate them, especially as you have to reload after six or seven shots.
With regard to importation into England from the States, it is possible using a US broker and a bona-fide gun-dealer as end user. As long as you have modified your FAC to the type and calibre rifle you want to import.
I do own a straight pull Ak but it is no good for gallery rifle events.

Well if you find one of these, let me know. I'd be interested too ;)

Cotswold Arms was shut down by Glouctershire police :)() but the bloke who ran it is still about. I believe he is now working with the good people at South Yorkshire Shooting Supplies so you may be able to contact him through them at: 01226 756332

Armalon are still about, you can contact them on: 020 7262 1881

Southern Gun Company are still making their lever-action AR15 on .30 carbine as far as I know. They are at: 01208 851074

Good luck :)

Lever action rifle with extended magazine

Continuing the discussion,

Cotswold arms is still operating from a shop, but the owner has lost his dealers licence, so he has to do things at arms-length as it were. The position is that he is having some magazine adapters produced to take a Desert Eagle magazine extended to take 16 rounds. This will be attached to the Browning BLR with either .357 or .44 magnum calibre rounds. I am not holding my breath about this, hence the search in the States for a gunsmith who could produce something along the same lines. The ruger 44/ rotary box underlever rifle could be adapted with an extended mag, on the same lines as their .22, (30 rounds) but nobody seems to have produced one for this model for some reason

If we can get a few more people interested in buying into this sort of set up then I should think somebody will take it up , but it is a matter of getting four or five definate orders at least.
