Anybody have long term experience carrying Underwood or BuffaloBore ammo? I’ve used both but just for testing. Anybody carried one of these brands daily for six months and then shot it in practice to change it out?

I’m asking because I’m not sure either is sealed and most large manufacturers seal their premium ammo. Also the big guys have more resources for long term testing.

I carried UnderWood Xtreme Defender for almost a year, then bought another 20R and shot the older stuff..no issue....

I guess I'd have to ask why sealing is a concern for you? Are you frequently falling into water or perspiring that much?

If yes on either, I get your concern.

I've carried Underwood, not daily but open in a woods gun, and even though I've been caught in the rain several times, I have never had an Underwood round fail to fire.

Yes occasional outdoor work in Texas humidity. Absolutely soaked my clothes in 30 minutes last week. Also just the fact that carry ammo is not stored in ideal conditions of a "cool, dry place."

@Hartkopf not to get too off topic, but what load are you looking at? The manufacturers you mention put out very high performance ammo (which I think we all know), and I guess I'm just curious about what edge you think that ammo is going to give you over something from one of the bigger manufacturers. Not that there's anything wrong with getting the most from a cartridge.

My current thoughts are solid bullet +p for weak calibers for a BUG. They're duty caliber ammo could always be a consideration with Gold Dot bullets. Either way it's the long term reliability I'm concerned with.

I carry underwood penetrators in my lcp II and my Glock 19. Hope to never need them. But the penetration is good on hard surfaces. Almost forgot I carry there +p+ 44 mag in my Ruger for bear country. And they have some power.

I load my LCP II (EDC) with Lehigh Defense Extreme Penetrator. I carry 7+1 with 2 extra 7 round magazines or a total of 22 rounds. When I go to the range it is to practice for SD, and nothing more. I go once a month and fire off those 22 rounds. I do not do it out of concern for ammo deterioration. I do it be sure I never lose the feel of the firing the EDC gun with my select EDC ammo.

I haven't but I wouldn't worry about it at all. I admittedly have always lived in dry environments, but in my experience ammunition is really robust and I've never had any issues with it going bad on me, including carry and hunting ammo. The deer I shot last fall was taken with some cheap core lokt that I've had for at least 15 years.

An LCP magazine full of Underwood 100 grain hard cast was forgotten in a pocket and took a trip through the was machine. One minute into the dryer after I heard a clanging in the dryer and looked in. Two rounds had come out of the magazine and the rest didn't. I put them back in the magazine and tried it a few days later. All but one fired like normal.

I was a salvage/rescue boat captain for many years. Underwood or Buffalo Bore rode with me in some pretty bad conditions on Puget Sound. I stayed damp for a decade. Rotate ammo out about every 2 to 3 months. Never had a failure to feed, function, or fire.

9mm, .45acp, and 380. No differance in reliability. Just fired the last of a 1000rd case of 10mm Underwood, (ordered 3k and yes, it was pricey). Love 10mm. Glock 40mos with a 1moa RMR is a match made in heaven, to me.

Oddly enough the lcp is my fastest 3 rounds from concealment. Hate the little thing but it does shoot well. So it gets carried as a bug.

To directly address the OP. Dont worry about either Underwood or Buffalo Bore. Great ammo under any conditions. Currently carrying the extreme defender in .380 and 9mm. Good stuff.

I've used underwoods 165 grain 10mm as carry ammo for years, zero issues . at one point I had 2 15 shot mags in the glove box of my creepy van for 2 years- northern Illinois gets over 100°f in the summer and well below 0°f in the winter. It all shot fine. I refresh my carry guns ammo every 6 months so I can't say if carrying it longer would affect it but I doubt there would be any change.
I went for a swim in the ocean for a couple hours with some hornady ammo (.380 )a few years back, it all fired fine too.

If you're that worried about it, put some fingernail polish on the primer and around the case mouth.

Not that worried just curious. What’s your long term experience with either of these manufacturers?

I've never gotten either one wet. And a relative newcomer to Underwood. Got some .38 special recently, haven't even fired it yet. Buffalo Bore I used a fair bit in a 686. No problems but pretty stout.
