Hey guys,

I got fired a couple weeks ago from the dealership and im going to reapply for pistol permits here in Central New Jersey.

Question is if i put unemployment down, do you think that will effect anything? or should i put self employed.

why would being unemployed be an issue with getting a pp? if you put down self employed--would that me you are not eligible for unemployment benefits??? you could be shooting yourself in the proverbial foot?:uhoh:

I woud strongly reccomend against lying to NJSP. How are the job prospects? It might be advisable to wait until you have a new job to apply.

How might the following people answer the employment question:
retirees
homemakers
students

You're in good company. No worries.

It is not illegal to be unemployed and buy a handgun even in NJ. The reasons you got fired may have some impact if it was for assaulting another employee, dealing drugs, habitual dunkeness, etc.

Just put down unemployed unless you are actually self employed. Anything else would be a false statement on the application which would be grounds for denial. You would then have to bring up the denial in furture applications.

Are you talking permit to purchase a pistol or permit to carry. If the latter, save your money. Don't lie on any application since it's probably a felony to do so.

Please, stop responding as if the OP is suggesting he's going to lie on his paperwork. He's asking if providing the proper information, which he never suggested he wouldn't be providing, will affect his likelihood of having the application accepted.

which he never suggested he wouldn't be providing

That looks like he is suggesting something.

A lot of people are out of work right now. There is nothing to be ashamed of that. That shouldn't keep you from buying a firearm. Hey maybe someone at the police station knows someone who may know of some work for you. You never know. Have fun gun shopping and good luck with your job search.

"Laid off" is no lie. "Between jobs" is no lie. While I've never heard of employment being a condition for purchase--and I doubt it exists--there is no way to know of the attitude of those in authority. And this isn't a psychology forum. :)

Best luck.
