i have a .300 WM and i really want to get a unertl to put on it for long range shooting.

are they really worth it? from everything i've heard they are, but i reckon i just need some reassurance from those of y'all that have one...or more.

I asked the same question a while back. The general consensus was that the Unertl (and Feckler) type scopes weren't the best choice out there.

IIRC, the concerns were that the technology is outdated and they're best used as collection pieces or pure BR work... The external elevation and windage knobs and parallax adjustable objectives are maintenance intensive and a little too delicate for field use... They don't handle recoil well...They're prone to fogging... Their standard and POSA mounts are too unique to be installed by the average Joe Homegunsmith...They're difficult and expensive to repair since hardly anyone knows much about them anymore... You'll need to learn how to manipulate the scope in a way that's totally different from any other more modern scope and that's bad under stress...

I'm sure there was more, but you get the idea.

I hope someone else posts some really positive comments about these scopes and using them. For the rifle I use for LR, a good 10X scope has worked exceptionally well and didn't give me the headaches mentioned above.

Sorry I whizzed in your cornflakes.

thanks, my other choice is a leupold mark 1 tactical, but they're a little bit more expensive. i hate when i buy a rifle and have to wait to save up more money to buy the scope i want.
