Hello. Does anyone out there know what the current standard loadout for a Blue Helmet foot soldier is? When I search for this on the internet, most of the results are for US Marine and Army gear, even if I put "United Nations" in quotes. Thanks.

What ever the issue is for the country they are from. RIfles are usually .223, but .308 and 7.62x39 are used also. Helmets are universally blue PASGT helmets. Uniform, LBE, pack and other accutrments will be from the country the soldiers are from.

I have been deployed as part of and alongside NATO troops. What they get issued is based on their host nation. The NATO agreement is not like a shared arms room where a soldier from Germany will get the same equipment as someone from France. The NATO agreement is the ammo is similar so they can be theoretically shared. Example, 9mm NATO and 5.56 NATO will be about the same from country to country, but not quite exact. I don't even think their distinctive blue helmets are made by a single producer for all parties.

Yeah other then anything signifying as a U.N. Specific contingent equipment is whatever the specific countries force in question would normally use/be issued.

Typically it’s their country’s standard issue. South Asian militaries tend to be big contributors for infantry while Europe, Japan, the US and others fund them. More manpower for the money and they get free training with the small US and NATO coalition partners too! So Pakistani G-3s and various AK types are common.

There are also regional variations. Africa sees mostly African Union or ECOWAS led missions and Rwanda, Ethiopia, South Africa, and Nigeria are big contributors. Russia and Ukraine (at least before 2014) often send old helicopters and armored vehicles too.

In short, I’d hate to run their logistics in a prolonged mission.

One year at The Bataan Memorial Death March at White Sands Missile Range several of us passed an aid station set up by the Germans from Holloman AFB. One of the American marchers asked what they had to drink. The German replied it was the equivalent of Gatorade but tasted terrible and didn't do anything for you. The American soldier said, "Oh, so it's like American beer".

If you are from a real military like the US, UK, Canada, etc., you use your standard issue stuff and get issued a few items like a blue helmet cover, some patches, and so on. You may also have rules dictated stating that certain items of your standard issue like machineguns and grenades are not allowed. If you are from a 3rd world country like pakistan, they show up with the clothes on their back and a weapon in their hand. The UN will give them everything else they "need" for the mission: Ind. equipment, rations, comms gear, ammunition, clothing, vehicles, computers, and so on- and much of the time, they will either be allowed to keep the stuff, or it will become "lost". Not to mention actual $ paid to the government of that UN member, I assume for the trouble. This is how and why you see UN troops from somewhere like pakistan deploying to somewhere like haiti to "fix problems". Sometimes, the country they deploy to is just as bad as the one they left, maybe even better.
