Universal Clays - Brown color?

Brown color for this powder? I put some in a pile and it burned immediately.

Good or bad?

Have about 2 pounds of this and would like to use it but if its junk. It's in a plastic jug, about 5 years old. It was closed and stored in a dark dry place?

Smell it.

If it smells like solvent, it is probably fine.

If it smells acidic, use it on the lawn.

You're good. The chemical formulations in smokeless powders are very stable. Shelf live of properly stored powders can easily exceed 70 years. And in reality would probably exceed that by many times.

If your question is should Universal be brown, the answer is yes, well, actually more tan than brown.

I like the color because it is easy to see in the case. I wish more powders were light colors, such as Universal, W-231, AA #2, Competition, etc.

Powder smells "clean" like my other powders.

So It's good to go probably so I will use it later.

Agreed, Universal is an awesome powder, excellent in my 40 S&W loads. Once my Unique is all used up, I'm converting over to Universal.
