"Universal ClipDraw" ~ This thing really works!

My loving PhD son, explained elastic polymer bonding states and state-of-the-art xenophilic adhesive qualities 'til my eyes glazed over - about 32 seconds.

We were discussing the new "Univeral ClipDraw" and how it uses an adhesive strip to attach the clip base to the weapon. My experience with adhesives has been limited to J B Weld, super-glue and the odd bit of packing tape.

He bought me one...and this thing really works! I usually just tuck my gun in my pants and go. You can imagine that this practice has it's assets and it's liabilities.

Since that's the way I usually carry, I didn't have a whole lot to lose buy trying this gadget. With Son looking over my shoulder to make sure that I read and followed the instructions - why would he think I wouldn't? - I installed the ClipGrip. Took about 2 minutes. Works equally well for left-handers, like me, or wrong-handers. The immediate perk was that I carry the weapon higher. Hmmmm. I'm liking this!

That was about three months ago and this thing is as tight as ever and hasn't move a millimeter.

Great, isn't it! I have pocket clips on my Glock 36 and Kel tecs. Who needs the added bulk of an IWB holster?

A Clip-Draw on a Glock sounds like a self-castration waiting to happen.

Do you carry with the chamber empty?

Hmmm... I can see one immediate problem. The original Clip-Draw for Smith & Wesson revolvers (which they still sell - product code JF for J-frames and KF for K- and L-frames) attached to the gun using the existing screw holes in the frame, so revolver disassembly was still easily possible when necessary. Their photo illustrates this:

However, with the new "RV" universal model, this attaches by means of a glue strip - which would place it over some of the frame screws, and prevent disassembly of the revolver (e.g. for deep cleaning) unless you removed the glue strip. Photographic illustration:

They've obviously anticipated this, as the package comes with:

... six strips of tape (one required and five extras), six alcohol prep pads for cleaning surfaces prior to applying the tape, four screws (two required and two extras) and one allen wrench.

However, I'm not sure I'd want to have to remove and re-install it every time I did a deep clean of my carry gun. This might damage the finish over time.

I think I'll stick with the original screw-mounted models for now. However, for someone who doesn't disassemble their revolvers too often, the new "generic" RV version might be the bee's knees.

i put one on my makarov and really like it. no added bulk and conceals well. has proven to be very secure. also use the factory supplied clip on my kel-tec p11.

I carry all guns with a chambered round. If you are inclined to putting your finger in the trigger guard while drawing or holstering, I do not reccomend this carry mode with ANY pistol. I am quite fanatical about this, and have no problem with this mode of carry. I carry in the 4:00 clock position.

Word of clarification: I don't use the universal clip draw. I use the factory clips frm Glock & Kel tec. Don't think I'd care to glue anything to my gun.

Quite agree with Zund ... this device would not suit me at all but ... whatever your rig ... the straight trigger finger is a must - EVERY time. No half measures.

Yeah, I knew I was going to get beat up for my post on IWB carry without a holster. I submit that there is nothing in my pants that is going to pull the trigger on my glock. A lot, maybe the majority of NDs, happen as the weapon is being drawn or reholstered. As I am confident I will not put my finger inside the trigger guard durring this time, I am ok with it. The trigger guard is well protected once the weapon is IWB. I am not trying to sell anyone on this mode of carry, just trying to express my views. Obviously this is not for everyone!

Don't let them mess with your mind. It doesn't matter what they think - it is what YOU like.

Try one you may like it. I did. I have them on all my guns.

On my glocks I do use the Saf-T-blok. If you don't like it you are only out $20. Or you can return it and get your money back.

No problem man, I neither seek or require approval. I just try to look at things objectively and find what works for me. I try to remain open minded enough that I don't close the door to new ideas without some thought and trial. I have been considering the trigger block for my Glock 21 that I sometimes carry as a duty weapon. A little extra insurance in the event of a disarm. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. It would mean a lot of training time to get used to it. Still haven't ruled it out. Stay safe!

I have really gotten to the point that I don't think the Saf-T-Lok slows me down at all. It really was not much of an adjustment at all. Took only one range session to get up to speed. I have been shooting .45's since Nam so I thought it would be a hard adjustment. Turns out that was not the case.

I use it when I carry with the clipdraw or the smartcarry. Don't use it if I use a holster. The change between the two causes me no problems.

After 30yrs of indexing on the draw, it might take more than one range session for me to retrain. I actually carry one of three primary arms in duty gear. In addition to the Glocks, I carry the 1911s 45s and the Witness DA in 10mm. Even though the actions are different, my shooting grip wipes the safety on the 1911s and the Witness. With all three actions my draw and fire strokes are pretty much the same (the Witness is carried "cocked & locked" like the 1911s.) Sooooo I could use the "Glock Block" on the Glocks only. Now you see the problem. Guess I could limit my primary carry to the Glocks!! Naw-------------! Still think the Glock Block is a good idea!
