Unknown Case

Hey guys i found this case while sorting some cases, its right between a 308 and 30-06 with crimped berdan primer and what appears to be a .30 caliber throat. I have no idea what it is.

Did Dominion Arsenal make 7.65 Mauser ammunition in the 1980's?

Measure the case from base to mouth, and measure the inside of the case, which will give a clue whether it held a 308 or 323 bullet. (maybe, chamber throat diameters vary considerably). And measure the rim diameter, both the 7.5 X 55 and 7.54 X 54 have wider rims than 30-06.

Thats looks like a 8x57 case to me

I have to agree, looks like a 8X57mm Mauser to me too. The case looks slightly wider than the .308 Win case. Measure the neck, if it comes up close to 0.323" you have your answer. If not and its close to 0.308" then its probably a 7.5X55mm Swiss case. (also like said above)

Brass and Berdan primed, I'm going with 8x57.

7.7 Arisaka?

I first considered that but the neck angle is not near sharp enough.

Here's a pix of 308, 7.7 arisaka, 30-06. Couldnt find a 8MM handy. The 7.7 brass is 2.265 inches long.
