I admit I'm being lazy by asking... I have a new Browing Maxus and was wondering how to unload unfired shells. With any other shotgun type (double-barrel, pump, etc) it's obvious, but how do you get them out of a simi-auto shotgun?

[edit]
Aaa, Google... from http://www.americanhunter.org/ArticlePage.aspx?id=2026&cid=63
New for the Maxus is "speed unload"-lift the shell carrier and press a tab next to the magazine, and the shells are literally spit from the magazine tube. The idea for designing a semi-auto shotgun that unloads without working the bolt is not new, however, this is one of the most user-friendly I've tested.

Pull the bolt handle back and forth till you run out of shells in the mag?

Or read your Owners Manual.

I have no idea if that will work on a Browning or not. It won't work on my Benelli. You'll only get the round out of the chamber.

It’ll work on the Benelli providing you press the cartridge drop lever (or whatever it’s called on your gun) between each cycle; essentially chambering and then ejecting each shell in the gun.

Cycle the bolt handle and eject the chambered shell
Press release and shell ejects unto the carrier
Cycle bolt and chamber shell
Cycle bolt and eject shell
Lather, rinse and repeat until empty

Just pull the bolt back unchambering the chamberd round, dump out the next round, now let the bolt go forward, now pull the bolt back & dump out the third round & let the bolt go & you are done.

After reading the manual(!) and messing around with some snap caps, it's all figured out, thanks.

That was my point. Simply pulling bolt handle back and forth will unload some semi-auto's, not others.

I usually eject the round in the chamber and then depress the shell stops to pull the other 2 directly out of the magazine.

The manual says unloading can be done by releasing the shell stop and removing the shells in the magazine and then pulling bolt handle to remove the chambered round.

Or by cycling the action with the bolt handle till magazine and chamber are empty.

Right on the Browning web site under manuals.

Some semis have a button that allows you to eject the round in the chamber but not load a new round from the mag tube. Some people don't understand that this feature has been unintentionally activated and think this is how their gun is supposed to work all the time.
