"unreasonable amount of ammunition" What the heck is this?

Hmm. Good thing I put a locking doorknob on my downstairs storage closet. Those wooden crates from CMP do look pretty cool.

What would constitute a reasonable amount of ammunition for a man who is armed and appears to be deranged?

Inversely...What would constitute an unreasonable amount for someone who isn't...and has given no indication being so?

The real question is:

How long before the two criteria overlap?

I don't think that "unreasonable amount of ammunition" is intended as a legal term. Rather, it's a description of why the guy's actions were suspicious.

If someone packs a pistol and a couple of magazines, that looks like it could be done for the purpose of self-defense. If someone walks into a crowded store with a pistol and a couple hundred rounds on him, that looks like he might be wanting to shoot up the place.

Duct taping someone to a chair and forcing them to watch Paula Abduhl pornos is a capital offense.

Please tell me these don't exists? Please... I beg you. That might make me want to end it all as well. Must poke out mind’s eye. Must bleach brain.

Carrying a gun into a Big Box store like Wal-mart is proof enough that there will never be blood in the streets due to CHL's. If there is ever a time a rational well adjusted person would want to snap, it's in one of these stores.

This guy, who was off his nut, even had to think about it for a while. Although, I wonder if he'd gone in with intent to buy something, if he'd have ended up going postal? Something to think about.

Someone else asked about Wal-mart banning CCW. I doubt it. But given their latest trends (Getting in bed with Bloomberg. Fighting FL's parking lot bill) it shouldn't matter, we should be avoiding them like ... well... Paula Abdul movies.

Looks like the guy caused his own problems. The police and the general public aren't takin' such implied threats lightly these days, and you can't blame'em. In 1960, a 12 year-old kid could point a finger at his classmates and say "bang" without raisin' an eyebrow. Now, it makes people nervous...very.

Duct taping someone to a chair and forcing them to watch Paula Abduhl pornos is a capital offense.

I dunno about you, but I could sit and watch Paula Abdul do absolutely nothin' all day long and be as happy as a duck. One of the slam-dunk sexiest women that ever drew a breath, next to Debra Winger and Mary McDonnell...IMO, of course. :)

Have you ever NOT seen WalMart teeming with customers?

I have two Walmarts, each about 20 minutes away in different directions.

One is teeming with illegal aliens spending my tax dollars and the other is teeming with trailer trash spending my tax dollars. At least the ammo is cheap.

It's hard to determine what was unreasonable unless they can give us a count of how many targ.. I mean people were in the store at the time. Just speaking to the facts anyway.

doesn't need a life in prison......

Now that's POSITIVELY SCARY.

Send chills up my spine just reading it.

I hope his medical insurance covers the cost of psychiatric treatment.

springmom is almost 100% correct.

the sign found on all stores selling alcohol: (i checked the one where i work)

Quote:
the unlicensed possession of a weapon on these premises is a felony with a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment and a fine not to exceed $10,000.

to review...the texas law says...
carrying without a CHL = misdemeanor
carrying without CHL where alcohol is sold = felony

this guy is being charged with the felony. the 51% law only applies to people who do have a CHL and would never apply at any Wal-Mart (unless they put a pub in one).

everyone got that now?

Ok, well then that makes more sense. Still kinda weird having an "overlap" in a sense kinda law for unliscensed carry, but I admit, it does seem legit based on the new info, and that kinda "overlap" thing isnt all that uncommon.doesnt really make it lees wierd or confusing, and is kinda pointless. If unlicesned CCW is so "bad", why a misdomeaner if you do it 1 place, but a felony in another? ow well. I wont complain. I dislike CCW laws/permits, so I'd rather see it be a misdomeaner (if anything) in MOST places, rather than they just "consolidate" the law and make it a felony everywhere.Too many laws, made by too many sections of government. And we are expected to knwo all of them. guess you are supposed to not just read all the sates, counties, and cities laws, but search every individual government department for any laws/codes they add on as well. They really need to make it where the city counsil or legislature is the ONLY one making laws, and get rid of all thes administartive laws, policies, codes, etc that a department cant pass at thier whim. Its just too much.

I still stick by my rant in principal though, as what I mention does happen, it just appears to not be the case this time, as I was not getting the distinction in the laws. Apparently my Texas law-fu is quite weak :D

however, I digress, as I didnt intend to drag the thread off topic at all.sorry.

Sound to me as if the LEOs just saved this guy's life and likely several others.

the sad truth is, that with a GOOD (yeah, right) attorney, he could probably get off on all the charges, as long as he gets counseling. but, for the original part of this post, i would just like to know how many rounds he was carrying.

AUSTIN, Texas — A former Wal-Mart employee was arrested in the crowded store he once worked at, armed with a 9 mm handgun and an "unreasonable amount of ammunition" that police believe he intended to use, according to arrest affidavits.

So, perhaps the powers that be in that jurisdiction could tell us -what is a reasonable amount of ammunition for someone who is planning on going on a shooting spree at his local Wal-mart?

Perhaps they were having a special on hollow points and the police thought he should have bought them there rather than bringing his own.

Seriously though, it's just good that they stopped him before he could do any real damage. Hopefully they will recognize that the guy needs help. He wanted to be locked up, and it might be better if they lock him in a facility where he can get psychiatric care.
