There may be some places that require registered guns, I will not live in that place.
I am always amazed that both CSI and CSI Miami act like all handguns can be immediately traced to the exact onner in a heart beat.
I was pretty good friends with a guy who was in charge of our capital cities evidence and siezed property services. I asked him about the guns that came in, He said 90% are stolen. IN his mind, when any Good Quality gun, AKA, colt, smith, sig. etc came in on an arrest. it was as good as stolen. Hi-points, maverick, mossie short shotties, etc a toss up on stolen or bought smewhere far away.
The 10 % that were not stolen were usually either a kid gone bad taking out the parents gun, or someone caught were they were not supposed to be...or as my dad would call, in saddle on the wrong horse.
He was amazed at the number of guns he knew to be stolen that never showed up on the property sheets. He claimed that the previous Chief was a knowlegble person on firearms and sought dispensation from the crusher of high quality guns with no past. But he said the new guy crushed everything, even though it was told to him he was grinding up maybe a 100K a year in value. He said two engraved SAA's and a Renaissance grade browning Challenger or medallist got eaten in the last batch. No once claimed the loss, no serial number on file. He said on average the PD pulled in about 5 guns a day, and maybe one went home,
