Can anyone tell me what size (mil. spec.) is the aperture of the rear sight (the later type, not the ealier flip type) on the M1 Carbine?

The reason I asked is I just bought a CZ 452 FS, and I'm thinking about replacing the factory rear sight with an after-market aperture/ghost ring sight. I'd like to order one that has the same aperture (or maybe just a tad smaller) than the (later type) M1 Carbine sight. Thanks.

0.078 inches. I am pretty sure. At least that is the 300 meter apeture on a flip. I think it is the same on an Type 2 and Type 3.

Thank you very much Ed.

One more question, I just bought (today) an A/O M1 Carbine with the older type flip sight. Is the lower sight set for 100yds and should it tilt a little forward, and is the higher sight for 300yds and should it tilt a little backward?

Thanks.

The 100 yard sight should be the larger of the two apertures. The 300 the smaller. According to Craig Riesch in US M1 Carbines Wartime Production , there are some Repro Apertures measuring 0.062. I don't know if he means parts that are humped or repro on Aftermarket carbines however. I just throw that out to let you know about another size.

Having read all the above, I decided to just measure a Type 3 sight aperture. .078" is correct.
