M1 Carbine Rear Sight Problem

I recently purchased my first M1 carbine. It's a shooter grade Inland made in '44 that I picked up fairly cheap and I think was serviced in Italy at some point as indicated by the cartouche "FAT 82", just in case any of this is relevant.

At any rate, the rear sight aperture actually wobbles inside the sight ramp; ruining accuracy (well, what one can call accuracy in a carbine). I can't figure out how to get it out of there to replace it or even find a replacement for it. So any suggestions as to how I should to about doing this? Or do I need to replace the entire rear sight?

You have a problem
The carbine Windage screw is staked on the end to prevent taking it apart. And sight parts are very hard to find anyway.

And even a new sight will have some movement in the peep slider and screw threads. They are not long-range match-grade sights!

Replacing the whole sight is not as simple as it might seem either.

Unless you have an M-1 Carbine sight tool, it is possible to crack the receiver just trying to beat it off. The military sight is very tight in the dovetail, and then is heavily staked in place after it was pushed on with a receiver cradle sight pusher.

If it was me, I might just consider sighting it in, and then locking it in place with a couple of strategically placed drops of Blue Lock-Tight.

It's not very hard to remove and replace the rear sight. I used a large C clamp that I sort of customized and I have also tapped them out. It's been a long time since I did the last one but I think it's pushed out to the left and back in from the right.

Rear sights are easy to come by. Shotgun news has several ads for them or go on Gunbroker. I got a milled rear sight for $25.00. I like the idea of using locktite too.
