I did a posting about the same thing going on around the boarder states which many felt someone was in error to put it nicely. One guy was visited by 6 men and one female officer of ICE and Border Patrol.

Brian was in the Marine Corps and is an Oath Keeper. He has spoken out at rallies about what he believes are the inane rules being imposed on the fishermen in Maine. Think he runs a 45 ft trawler. By the video it appears someone at the LGS made the call and the police who know him were very nice but just doing a follow up. So pick whatever reason you want to for him getting the call/visit.

Did the police do anything illegal, IMO no. A citizen reported (what he incorrectly felt was) suspicious activity following what he perceived the guidelines are for "see something say something". So then the police have basically two choices to put it simply.

1. Do nothing - ignore the report
2. Follow up

If on the off chance Brian shot up a movie theater and the police didn't follow up - the police would be at fault for not doing the follow up ... right? The citizen would be yelling from the rooftops that he warned the police.

Or:

When did purchasing ammo become suspicious activity and create probable cause to question a free citizen making a legal purchase?

The police said he wasn't suspected of any crime.

Some things are just a no win situation for the police and or the citizens.

Hahahaha when I found out it was going on in my area I ordered some ammo which should be here Friday. I spoke with a person who is non Spanish and had something he thought weird happen with his ammo shipment. UPS tracking said his ammo would be delivered on a particular date. The ammo was delivered a day late with the packing slip pouch cut; he said that had never happened before with any of his many orders. He got no call/visit. I have 3 other people to speak with that something similar has happened but have not made contact with them. So far from what I have seen it is going on. Not really motivated as I once was for IMO it is going on for selected individuals and nothing we can do about it anyway.

You know, after I think about it a little bit, the guy on the video was straining a little for offense.

He wasn't arrested.
He wasn't detained.
His home wasn't searched.
His car wasn't searched.

Ergo, I'm not sure there's been any violation of rights. If anything, the biggest worry to me was the statement that they had pulled his "record" and they knew he was clean. But is that a violation of rights?

I think Sky has it correct...a "concerned" citizen made a report and it was followed up and disposed of. If this gentlemen has a similar report made against him every week, then the police will begin ignoring the report or ignoring the reporter. But they got a report and were compelled to check it out. No big deal.

On the other hand, that reasoned response is coming from a guy who was upset last week because a K-mart employee asked for my birth date (and entered it into the register) because I was buying a razor-edged scraper.

Police need not engage in criminal actions to achieve the intended results. If the police only talked to say, minorities walking into a voting precint, would that be met with anger?

They call that "chilling effect" against the innocent.

Ideally, they then proceed to obtain a search warrant on the 'concerned citizen' and evaluate their mental health for believing there was cause to call the police. That would have a 'chilling effect' upon those intent to inflict harm upon those who wish to engage in their lawful 2nd amendment rights.

I got my ammo on Friday and packing slip was intact; today is Monday 17, 2012 and have not received a call or visit. I also finally spoke with my neighbor who works for the Border Patrol. His first response was BTAF and then I told him the story about Mex. He backed off of BTAF and said, (paraphrase) "it really depends on who you are". That is all he said about the subject and I inferred that was all he wanted to say. No conspiracy just fact as he understood the process IMO.

They call that "chilling effect" against the innocent.

For those who set PMs thank you for your thoughts and input

Take what you want from this post and the preceding original post that started all this and believe what you are comfortable with. Many things are not right or wrong but have there fair share of gray to muddy the waters. Hope this answers some of the questions some of you had for it is all I have.

I had 19,080 rounds of ammunition delivered at my home last month, no phone call, no visit, nothing. UPS driver thanked me for helping him unload. That was about it.

Guess whatever is going on down south doesn't pass muster of suspicion in rural Illinois.

^^^ And it will keep getting worse until we form a united front and deal with all the crap that has been heaped on all firearms owners over the years. There I have said it.
