Original poster, your roommate is stuck in the "Theory Zone". It's next to impossible to have a rational conversation with that type of person. He will stand by his arguments as religious people stand by their religion. Logic cannot be used to persuade him. Something catastrophic will have to happen in his life for him to change his perspective. A safe, theoretical, college dorm debate is not such a catastrophic event. I'm one of the most analytical individuals around, and I love a good debate. However, at some point, we all have to put down the theory and statistics and use God-given sense. Meanwhile, stats and real world cases still do not support your roommate's arguments. Save your time and energy. Hit the books to increase your GPA, or hit the gym to increase your bench press. At least those endeavors will leave you with satisfying results.
