Thanks for all your votes guys. I counted up the votes here and on Glocktalk, and the winner was the S&W 686 by a landslide. I ordered one up the other day and am expecting it some time next week. In the meantime, it is time to order up a set of dies, some brass, and some bullets so I can have some good ammo ready for her.

I can't wait!

Congratulations on your newest acquisition, hoss. The 686 is one great revolver and I'm sure you'll be happy with her. And don't forget to look into Cylinder&Slide's fixed rear sight for that model. In all of the years I've been shooting the 686, I've never had to adjust the adjustable sight and might just have a more durable fixed rear installed. Of course, the adj rear sight is still functioning fine so why fix (pun alert) what isn't broken.

Congrats! Glad I could help with the voting. I love mine and shoot it all the time.

Enjoy! :D

No arguement about your choice. But if I might add a comment - you did say $400 gun - and I assume that's new? If so, you not only got a great gun - but at a great price too. They typically go for about $100 more new around here.

Downside of the SW686

The one bad thing about the SW686 is that the sucker will digest high pressure .357 mags by the thousands without a hiccup. You will not be able to tell your spouse "I've worn this one out. I need to get another."

As long as you can live with reliability, durability, quality, and the ability to give it a slick DA trigger, you'll be satisfied. Oh, and you'll be stuck with merely hundreds of holster options in leather, kydex, and other materials.

Yeah, and don't forget you won't be able to spend as much as on one of those new service autos, which seem to start about $100-200 more.

Last, you will no doubt discover that it will also digest really cheap & easy to shoot .38spl wadcutter target ammo.

SW686--The Honda Accord of revolvers.
