Update on Axis first gen

So I installed the Mcarbo kit and did some light polishing on the trigger along with a light coat of oil. WOW is all I can say. It's much better than stock. That's actually probably an understatement.

I was smacking golf balls at a hundred yards consistently. I don't know what that translates to at 3-500 but it can't hurt.

I also shot my buddies Axis 2s in 308 and 6.5C with the accu-trigger adjusted way down. The pull weight was pretty similar but the break and stop I liked more on my gun, and I shot mine better. I'll be honest that big blade on the accu-trigger kind of messes me up.


Anyway just updating my "first larger caliber rifle" thread. Loving the Axis so far.

That's been my experience with my Axis - and I didn't install any modifications.

That was my experience as well. That was the reason I suggested it. It just turns that trigger into a whole nother animal. Glad you are enjoying your new rifle.

I’m pretty sure the trigger/sear on the axis is case hardened pot metal and stoning it can have unintended consequences.

I may be mistaken as well, but I wouldn't think that lightly polishing it with a cloth polishing wheel would hurt very much. I'm not sure how deep the case hardening goes. I did not take much metal, did not use a stone of any kind. About four hundred rounds through so far and no issues at all, but I may take it apart just to see if there's any additional wear happening now. I'm assuming that is the method used by good old boy as well.

All I did was take a very fine finger nail file and work enough to essentially get the paint of the trigger and sear, then lightly oil. No metal was removed.

I did see a couple of vids on YouTube mentioning the negatives of actually grinding to the point of removing metal on this particular trigger. I wouldn't advise doing that.
