I have shot it, but not in any condition to report on yet. I had not torqued the screws etc. and pretty much just got the scope on paper.
I'm hoping to actually take a day off next week now that it's all ready and shoot some groups.
Initial findings are promising. After a box of .308 getting the scope zeroed, the groups were about 3" at 100 yards. How is that promising you ask? Well The action screws had worked themselves so loose (I didn't realize at first) that the action was rocking a little when I turned the eyepiece on the scope.
I was so eager to do SOMETHING with this rifle that I shot it without really properly assembling it. Yes - I'm an idiot.
I spent tonight torquing it all up and making sure everything is ship-shape. I'll report as soon as I can shoot some groups.
I also need to re-write my section on the Badger Base. It's much better than my original impressions. Still not a $300 IMO, but much better than I originally stated in my review.
As for Remington - I pretty much gave up. While I'm sure they would have taken it back and done something for me, reports of them keeping rifles for months and other assorted alledged problems sort of made take a step back and assess what really mattered.
If the rifle shoots MOA or better I will probably have it bedded and accurized (crown, chamber etc.) in which case I would probably have it refinished anyway.
If it does not shoot MOA or better, I'll eventually replace the barrel or have the factory barrel recut, in which case I'll probably have it refinished anyway.
Most of my problems with the rifle so far are cosmetic. When I swapped out the stock it suddenly became my favorite toy. I can't tell you enough how much I love the McMillan stock. Between that and the larger bolt knob, I'm really starting to like this rifle.
Of coarse this is all acedemic if it doesn't shoot. It's coming - I swear!
