Hi everyone, flexible here. Just closed out my first BR match season and will be doing some more reloading and testing over the winter. Currently i have a RCBS Chargemaster 1500. It works well but sometimes stops while under or over.
Does anyone have recommendations for a better powder charger?
thanks

Beaucoups Bucks, but worth every penny

I had the 1500 for 10-15 years, then upped the the Supreme a year+ ago.
As good as the 1500 was: Night & Day -- especially ability to "learn" powders)

AutoTrickler is probably the best reasonable solution for speed and accuracy, but it's spendy.

The RCBS Matchmaster isn't terrible, but the scale isn't quite as good as the AT. Matchmaster can be bought fairly reasonably if you can get veterans discount.

Supertrickler is another option as well, but I keep seeing weird issues pop up for some users in the Facebook group I'm in for these, so I can't recommend it.

Depending on what version your CM1500 is, there are parameters that can be changed to make it behave. I've changed quite a few in mine and now it works faster and more accurate than factory settings. The main thing I changed was where it was changing speeds at. This is what keeps it from over shooting. If your using large tubular powder I found it better to use a straw to reduce the discharge ID. This makes it capable to drop a smaller amount to keep it from over shooting.

What kind of BR are you shooting?

100/200 yard and I’d pick a Neil Jones or Harrell’s powder measure.

If you are wanting to the hundredths of a grain repeatability, for long range BR, the AutoTrickler/A&D is the store bought way to do it.

An old 505 and a photoelectric switch to detect beam movement, is much more accurate than my RCBS charge masters.

Note the A&D is displaying to the hundredth of a grain, not tenth. I don’t know of a less expensive way to get this kind of repeatability.

If I am looking for that level of sensitivity, I would never fool with my CM’s and their auto zero “feature”.

I have never been one to load in the masses. Not that I am a precision or competitive shooter but when I load my loads are always as precise can be. I like to trickle charge, so powder charger is not as important to me. I use the cheap plastic one from Lee to start with. I've never felt the need to buy a Chargemaster, have always wanted one and price has never been an issue, but if I ever upgraded it would be the Chargemaster Supreme.

I was once worried that I wasn't getting the charge accuracy from my 505 that the electronic measures were able to provide so I did a test. I bought a high accuracy electronic scale and then measured out 5 charges of 62 grains of 3031 on the 505 ... being careful in observing the beam position and movement ... by eye nonetheless. Three of the charges weighed out at 62.00 grains on the electronic scale and two went 62.02. I've not worried about it since.

It might be a smidge more tedious on a 505, but it's not less accurate if one does their part.

This is an excellent suggestion. I had a couple of CM 1500’s and various other units and all of my frustrations were solved with the AutoTrickler and A&D scale. It’s fast, accurate and the latest update to the app made even faster by offering more control to the dispensing of powder from the larger and small tubes. I’m using the V4 version currently.
