Hey guys,

Looking to get set up the right way for USPSA Single Stack. I have been looking on the Dawson Precision website and had my eye on the STI Spartan with the Competition Ready Package.which includes

DP 1911 Ice Magwell, Flat Mainspring Housing, Standard Insert, Black 010-051
DP Fiber Optic .100 In. Wide Front Sight 020-093
DP 1911 Posi-Lock Mag Catch, Standard Length, 4-40 013-005
DP Lo-Pro Mag Button, Blued 014-004

----------

Or do i upgrade my stainless SA 1911 loaded with.(i dont know how to install any of these.Thats what makes the first pkg. nice because its already done professionally)

DP front & rear
Magwell
Trigger kit

---------

In reality, of course i want another gun...But does it make sense for what i do?

also note: i have some reliability issues feeding LSWC in the SA loaded. And seem to get FTE/FTF every 80 rds some days with them. some days i dont

To borrow from the wise member SaxonPig, it's always better to sell the gun you have and but the gun you want, than to try to turn the gun you have into the one you want.

And decades of gun messing-about agrees with that.

Price out the changes, compare. Also, find out if your SA has a 2-piece or 1-piece barrel. Trading into a 1-piece barrel is worth a premium in my book.

Since you don't do any of the work yourself, the cost analysis of paying for mods opposed to buying the Spartan will come into play. You'll pay at least

$70 for a magwell
$125 for a trigger 'kit'
$ 111 for Dawson sights

$306 before tge cost of labor

you can get $700 for your loaded if in good condition. The DP Spartan CRP is $820. Add $50 for shipping and FFL fees and you save $120 (just in parts cost) over upgrading your pistol. Something to think about.

Last question.

I use Wilson 47T 10 round stainless magazine, with the steel tab welded to stop the mag from over insertion. Would these work with the DP ice magwell? or do i need a magwell with the front cut out so the stop has somewhere to go.
