UPS left me a new toy yesterday afternoon! No P-dogs steel or otherwise will be safe.

A RRA Varmint 20" upper!

227214045.gif

I cleaned the barrel, lubed the correct areas, married it up with a RRA lower, added a Harris BR Bipod and mounted a Leupold VX-III 8.5-25x50mm Long Range scope using a LaRue SPR mount. I will have a MagPul CTR-N (non-mil-spec) stock hopefully by the end of next week.

I have Black Hills ammo in route in 55gr, 60gr, 69gr and 77gr to see what the 1:8 tube likes.

I will use this rifle to whack steel poppers out to 600 yards the majority of the time. I also plan on taking it out to South Dakota for the days that my hunting buddy, his dad and myself will be hiking onto public land. My Cooper MTV bolt rifle will be used for the driving onto private land shooting.
I prefer not to tear the wood stock up climbing fences, etc when shooting on public land. The AR will be a little heavy but I wanted the bull barrel since it will be a bench gun most of the time.

This RRA upper is made very, very well. The upper to lower mating is rock solid. Zero movement or rattle.

I still love the fact that you can buy an upper and have it sent straight to your house. :)

I'll get some pics up once my new home computer arrives along with the MagPul CTR-N.

The 77s will probably be the best. Noslers will shoot slightly faster than Sierras because the ogive is shorter (less bearing surface). Both can be loaded to mag length.

The Hornady 75 BTHP can be had cheaper, especially if you get in on a bulk buy like the one on The Sniper's Hide ($395 shipped for 4000).

If you are willing to single load, give the Hornady 75/80 A-Max a try along with the Sierra 80 and any of the VLD designs.

The 69gr SMK is 50/50. Some rifles can shoot them, others can't. But if you plan on doing 600, go with the 75+.
