The Judiciary Committee Chair, Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla refuses to calendar the campus carry bill.

The college campus carry bill, SB 176, is now stalled in the Senate Judiciary Committee. The committee is under bombardment by Bloomberg's gun control groups generated propaganda including a new television ad, and the chair, Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, Has not yet to put the bill on the committee calendar.

Its House companion bill, HB 4005, has completed all of its committee stops, having been reported favorably at each one with bipartisan support, and now awaits SB 176.

Senate President, Andy Gardiner, also refuses to see to it that the two remaining committee chairmen calendar the bill despite its companion bill's overwhelming success in the House.

This is intolerable!!!

Through his resistance to calendar SB 176, Sen. Diaz de la Portilla is ignoring the success of the House companion bill for his own personal reasons, and denying the bill its deserved consideration by the remaining Senate committees. This is an intentional attempt at running out the clock, so fellow Senators are not put in the position of having to vote yea or nay on the right to bear arms on campus.

In this way, they can claim support for self defense by honestly saying they've never voted against a pro-gun bill.

It's easy to say that when one doesn't have to vote at all!

Friends, we need to melt down the email servers and phone lines of the Senate President, the Chairmen of the final two Senate committees, and the committee members themselves.

If we don't do this, campus carry dies here and now. There simply isn't time for the House bill to make it all the way through the Senate committees, and it will see the same resistance as SB 176.

Remember that whether you contact the committee members either by email or by phone, to be courteous and respectful above all else. Be sure to keep your message brief, and thank them for their time.

In the subject line put: Calendar SB 176 Immediately!

Sample Body:

Dear Senator,

The fact that SB 176 has not been placed on the calendar of the Senate Judiciary Committee is unacceptable. This bill is opposed by big money from out of state, but we Floridians are the ones who will live under the law. Its companion bill in the House has been reported favorably by all assigned committees and is now awaiting action by the Senate.

The failure to calendar the bill appears to be a hollow attempt at protecting Senators from having to go on record with a position on the bill. That one Senator has the ability to run out the clock on an timely and important bill, with similar bills being heard in a dozen other states, is completely unacceptable.

This is about licensed adults, responsibly protecting themselves on campus, just as they do off campus, and over a quarter century of statistics from the Licensing Department of DOACS as proof.

Calendar SB 176 NOW!.

I've been sending emails for some time on this. Sent another today after reading this from Florida Carry. This is totally unacceptable.

Florida Carry has learned that SB 176, the college campus carry bill whose companion in the House, HB 4005 has already cleared all committees, has been ordered killed by one person - Senate President Andy Gardiner.

After staff for Senate Judiciary Committee chair Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla assured Florida Carry that SB 176 would be heard April 7th, Sen. Gardiner immediately ordered that the bill be removed from the calendar and not to reschedule it. Clearly caving to the anti-gun Senate Democrats rather than abiding the pro-gun Republican platform.

Another "red on red" incident ....

There was another red on red incident near the campus of Bethune Cookman University, near Daytona Beach FL.
A young man(with a long criminal history) was upset about being removed from a college area party so, he returned & shot four people, .

These violent crimes get "lost in the sauce" with the politics & media hype in Tallahassee.

Voters, 2A supporters and gun owners need to stay on top of these pro gun bills & political actions. We need to be our own Calvary :D !

Nothing to see here. Republicans doing Republican stuff. They should be able to get the powdered boozed banned however.

I'm a college student and I carry concealed on campus without ever considering whether it's "allowed" or not (it's not allowed at my school). If it ever comes down to it, I'd rather be alive and get kicked out of the school than be dead and still a student.

That being said, signing an online petition or writing to a Government official is about as useful as having a suggestion box for slaves… ha

FL bills ....

The media in central Florida is saying the "evacuation" bill passed :D so the new statue just needs Florida Gov Rick Scott(R) signiture.
I'm not sure where Gov Rick Scott stands on the "guns on campus" bills.

I sent a email to Sen Simmons. He emailed me a strange response that seemed lame, .
He wrote that he wants more trained faculty and staff on Florida campus locations to have firearms but would consider the new bill.

If the FL concealed carry/W holders were more involved or voted, FL could be open carry too but that's still a long way off in my humble opine.... .

Oh well there's what happened. Only one tiny bill can ever pass in one year in FL. Got to have stuff to run on next year. Can't fix everything at once.

Politics...

Yeah, why bother trying to clear up bad laws or statues & improve public safety when you can string it out over years.

These gutless nitwits in some of these state level positions really irk the #%*+ out of me sometimes. :cuss:

I would feel more comfortable on campus if I were carrying my .45, but, frankly, I wouldn't want any of the idiots I go to school with to be allowed to carry, especially the Campus Republicans. They're the biggest idiots of the bunch.

More zany antics on FL college property .....

Last weekend, a 21 year old man, reported as a UCF(University of Central FL) student, was arrested by campus police(with a K9 :D ).
The hapless lad was jacked up on illegal drugs. :uhoh:
He ran amok, beating students and screaming before the UCF law enforcement officers were able to contain him.
UCF, www.UCF.edu claims to now be the 2nd largest university in the USA.
I read and saw a few recent sources saying the college was 6th largest but whatever.

This cell video is worth watching and to share with any left-wing tongue waggers who want to protect the children.

UPDATE: Florida guns on college campus bill DEAD.....

Since the intrepid law makers of Florida up and left, the SB176 & House 4005 bills are now dead.
The bills would have granted W/CCW holders the ability to carry firearms on university or college locations.
The bill was good and could have saved lives/prevented crime but the elected officials chose to pass it off, then skate out of Florida's capital.

Maybe Florida Sportsman's Assoc & the NRA/ILA can get it done in 2016.
To have 48hr for Florida gun owners in declared emergency incidents is better than nothing.

well maybe next year, :barf: But yes the emergency bill is better than nothing. There are plenty of good things happening in other states, and we are only getting small "gains" for lack a better term. We need a win. Open Carry would be a win, campus carry would be a win. Another thing we need is eliminating the waiting period, that is just useless... I guess people don't fight for things like that because many like myself have CC permits. If we don't make gains now, the momentum will be lost and things will start swinging back the other way..

You guys should join the cause and vote for good people next election. You see what voting between bad and worst gets you.

Florida law makers.....

The elected officials shook out over a spat about healthcare and the FY budget.
Florida's state budget takes effect July 01 every year.
These law makers want to scuffle and squawk over ticky-tacky issues rather than act like mature adults.

As for electing better candidates, no one sane or that has a brain would ever go near this political machine, .

We end up with lawyers who do TV ads that get busted drunk & passed out on benches, . They think they can run for office and represent the people of Florida.

You see the problem but your solution seems to just keep voting for the problem. I was trapped in this mess for almost 20 years. It sure felt good not to vote for Rs(did vote for Scott) last election. The healing begins.

No Party Affiation.....

For the record, I'm listed as No Party Affiation. They don't list Independent where I live.

It doesn't matter what you're registered as. It matters what you do with your votes. I was thinking about switching from R to NPA but that would have severely limited my choices. Vote for good R in primary. Of course he has no shot. Then vote for someone good in the general. Folks like me are going to have a big say in 16.

Good vs no good ....

It does not matter if a law maker is good or not  if they leave 3 days early then refuse to debate/decide important bills or statues.
These elected officials shook out and no one is in the capital. GOP, DNC, NPA, everyone, .
