Urgent: need volunteer Spanish translator for the Calif RKBA Amendment...

Michael Pelletier asked me to post this. We need the "Kilmer initiative language" translated into Spanish, with a Mexican-American target market (mentioned because I seem to recall some dialect issues between Mexico and Spain?).

It's not very long, fortunately. I'll post the whole thing here. Post your translation here, and other Spanish-speakers can look it over and suggest fine-tuning if needed.

The inalienable right to defend life and liberty as set forth in Article I, Section 1 of the California Constitution includes the fundamental right of each person to keep and bear arms for the defense of self, family and home. This right shall not be infringed.

1. All State government action regulating the right of law-abiding persons to acquire and possess arms for the defense of self, family and home, shall be subject to strict scrutiny, in the same respect as the freedoms of speech and of the press. All county, city and local government action on this subject is preempted by state law and this Amendment.

2. This Amendment does not limit the State from regulating the acquisition and possession of arms by: felons, minors, the mentally incompetent, and any person subject to restraining orders based upon their own violent conduct.

Leo, you wrote that in something else and did a cut'n'paste here, right? If so, it would seem you left additional carriage returns in and I see some cases where there's either a comma or a semicolon with no space after...are those typos?

I'll strip out the extra carriage returns...

Cool. Can somebody fix the capitalization? It would look too funky to have the English version properly capitalized and the Spanish version all-caps.

El derecho irrevocable de defender la vida y la libertad tal como está establecido en el Artículo 1, Sección 1 de la Constitución del Estado de California, incluye el derecho fundamental de cada persona a tener y poseer armas de fuego para defender su vida, familia y hogar. Este derecho no debe ser socabado.

1. Toda acción gubernamental del Estado que regule el derecho de un ciudadano que respete la ley a adquirir y poseer armas de fuego para defender su vida, familia y hogar, debe estar sujeto a estricto escrutinio, en la misma manera que la libertad de expresión y la libertad de prensa. Toda acción de un condado, ciudad y gobierno local está sujeta a la ley del estado y a esta Enmienda.
