I have a shorty M1A that I never shoot and there is a guy up here who is thinking about swapping me a US made Weatherby Accumark in 340 Mag.
Stainless fluted barrel in a synthetic stock.

I have only owned the old German made Weatherbys, so does anyone have any pro-or- con thoughts of the US made Weatherby on the markV action???

Of course I need another heavy recoiling rifle like I need a hole in the head.

Each generation of a Mark V has only gotten better. Accumark is a great rifle.

FWIW....few months ago I bought one in .243 with a $350 Nikon scope at the LGS for $400. Appears unfired or used very little.

I understand that I got a screaming deal but I'd double check values. We can't use it for deer here. I got it for antelope out west. Value of bigger center fires here is limited

I looked back thru previous threads here and other forums and saw almost all positive feedback

I have 4 accumarks now all US made and they are all serious shooters. They're a very well made firearm and the 340 is just plain awesome. Puts animals on the ground in a big hurry.

I have not had difficulty getting to 1/2 moa with reloads from any of them. If you reload the 340 is a keeper if you don't I think I would try the 338 win mag. Ammo is a lot less expensive and more common.

Good luck and shoot straight.

Oh I do not need one...
As of today... I have a 300 Win mag, 350 Rem Mag, 375 Ruger and 416 Taylor for magnum zappers and I have owned all sorts of others.

I become bored easily and like to experiment with various hand-loads.

If the Weatherby could be bet upon to be accurate or have the potential to be accurate, it might be fun to play with for a year or so...

My personal tastes for a 340 would be a Euromark or Lazermark but up in Alaska, the Accumark is probably cherry. Do it.

The largest Win Mag they make is 300.

???????

As far as the Accumark, I like the 2 that I have and the 340 seems almost made for the "Great State".
To be honest I've gotten into both my Accumarks for less than most decent M1A1's I've seen but I attribute that more to just finding good deals than a fair market comparison.

What is a used 340 Accumark ( he claims 60 to 100 rounds fired) worth down in your neck of the woods???

I am trying to work a deal to include his dies and 60 rounds of once fired brass. So I figure the dies and brass are worth around $130.
He also has a Vortex scope stuck on the rifle. But those are only worth $300 brand new in the box. In fact I am amazed that the recoil did not re-arraign the scopes guts....

Have bought 338-378 & 30-378 with Leupold VXIII and Sheperd Scope for $1000 & $1100.
Guns have been in very good condition.
I think the scopes retail new for $6-9 hundred and the guns are running around $1500 new.

The VANGUARDS, which are a Howa as far as I am concerned, are marketed in 338 Win Mag.

And the 338 Lapua is marketed in the Weatherby Mark V action, as is the 375 H&H.

Ok, thread side-tracking solved.

I goofed on my post. Mine is a Vanguard, not Accumark. Lotsa difference in value

Appears the Accumark is worth 2-3x what a Vanguard brings

My apologizes on the 338 win mag, I took the they as in Winchester not Weatherby
