Usa Made 1911's

Where are the Springfield 1911 models made,the Kimber model 1911 and I know Colt still makes a 1911.Are most of the Colt parts made in USA? maybe this is a stupidquestion but seems like a lot of AMERICAN manufactors are getting cheap parts from somewhere else.Just wondering if someone can say.

Last I knew some of the springfield components where made in Brazil. Kimber is all USA as is S&W. Couldn't say about colt but would guess 100% USA.

To the best of my knowledge, the 3 you mention are all made in the USA. Springfield in IL, Kimber in New York, and Colt in CT.

The company is in IL, but I think most of the heavy manufacturing is done in Brazil.

Personally I don't care where stuff is made. If the price/value balance is there, I will buy it.

IMBEL makes the frame.

Are all the parts of a SA made in Brazil? I thought only the frame.

BTW, STI sells a model that has a frame made in the Philippines, by RIA's parent company.

If the wallet is fat enough you could step up to a Wilson or Nighthawk or Brown or Les Baer.

Where is the steel coming from that goes into these so-called "American made" pistols? Is every pin, spring, and screw made in the USA?

Like it or not, this is part of being in a global economy.

For example, my last car was made in Sweden based on an American design and had a japanese transmission. A friend's Chevy has an engine that is made in China.

Moral of the story: buy what you like.

STI sells a model that has a frame made in the Philippines, by RIA's parent company.

Correctamundo. The STI Spartan's frame and slide are made in the Philippines, but the "internals" are STI. Final QC is apparently done in the USA too.

This "made in USA" isn't so simple to explain.

Colt, and S&W make their own frames, slides and barrels, but buy some components from other sources. Others buy all of the parts they use from outside vendors, and simply assemble guns. Springfield Armory assembles some guns using purchased parts, while others are made overseas.

If you want a true "100% made in the USA" pistol find an older Colt.

When Saturn introduced their SUV a few years back if you got the four cylinder it was an American vehicle. If you got the six it was classified as an import because Saturn was using a Japanese engine and tranny, the vehicle was then classed as an import.
