Use of a Smiths rubber cartridge case in a repro 1859 percussion Sharps carbine

Has anyone tried this given that the Smiths is .50 cal and the Sharps is a larger cal, but could the Smith cartridge expand to fit the Sharps bullet...and yes I understand that the rubber cartridges shouldnt be loaded with more than 30grains due to potential cartridge rupture.

Upon further reflection I now doubt this is possible given the design of the Sharps breach., unless One of you mad scientists have tried it. ;-)

I'm not real familiar with the sharps, but what about the Gallagher brass cartridge in .54? It's similar to the brass smith cases I use.

Also are you familiar with the shell & tube cartridge? I have seen them used at th N-SSA.

Those shell and tube loading bullet and powder loading devices look interesting: just load your powder into the tube, top with your bullet holder with your bullet, insert the whole device into the breech, and withdraw the device, leaving the bullet and powder charge in the breech neatly. Looks it makes for quick reloading if you have a bunch preloaded and ready to go.

Those things actually work quite well.

The Smith cartridges will not work in a percussion sharps chamber as they are larger in diameter.

tried almost everything out there

I would suggest go to Charlie Hanhns web sight contact him and get his tubes. I've tried the plastic tubes from everyone that offers them have a box of them that I no longer use. They are ok but need very careful handling to keep them from falling apart even in transport. You will find that most of the N-SSA guys roll there own or use Charlie's tubes.
