Used 586 price check?

I need some advice. I'm thinking of picking up a used 6" S & W .357 mag 586 for $300.00.

One owner purchased in the '80's. Has originally box and all paperwork. Approx. 200 rounds through it. Bluing is in great shape. Tight lock up and the forcing cone and top strap are immaculate. Comes w/ two holsters and two speed loaders.

Well, should I snag it up or should I pass?

Seriously, this sounds like a good price for this firearm, based upon your description. It would be an EXCELLENT price in my state, maybe average in some others. But this sounds like a virtually NIB gun so I say buy it.

I just got a 4" for $275 but it has some holster wear and a nice tight lockup. Go and get it

I bought one for $330 without any extras and it was not in as good as condition as the one you describe. I would say, go buy it! It amazes me that these guns can sell for this little. That gun should shoot as well as any gun on the market. You have found a gem and the price is CHEAP! There is no downside to that deal!

Yeah, I thought it was too good of a deal and it was. The owner bumped it up $40. He must have did a little research. I think I'll still grab it for that. Thanks for the advice.

I bought a nice 586 maybe 7-8 months ago.
Really glad I did.
Paid $360 out the door.
It outshoots all my other .357's, including my Dan wesson, my N-frame 6 shot 627, and my other 686's.

What is the dash number -- 586, 586-1 or -2. The -nuthin and -1 may need to be modified. Check to see if it has an "M" in the crane near the model designation. If it's a -2 it has the mods already and no "M" is necessary. It's a good price regardless.

I wouldn't try to steer you wrong my friend; the S&W
model 586's and/or 686's are very fine weapons. I
currently own and shoot a 6", standard (six shot)
686. I like it pretty darn well; almost as much
as I do my SIG-Sauer P220A and P228!

FootNote: I wish mine were a 6", six shot 586; but
I bought this 686 NIB, and it has been a good one.

Buy it. Shoot it. Then finally understand why people are so crazy about the S&W revolvers! I think the 586/686 is the best S&W revolver for shooting, even better than the M-27.

I paid $250 for my 4" back in 97. It was excellent mechanically, with only slight holster wear.

IMO the 6" L-Frame is the best revolver S&W ever made. The balance is damn near perfect and most are real tack drivers.
