used Mossberg 500?

I have a line on a Mossberg 500 18.5" HD with extended mag. It apparently is a safe queen and the owner is unloading it for $150. Just assume it is in good working order and the finish is acceptable.

I own a 930 which i love, but i have read that the 500s have issues with the safeties. Does anyone have experience with this or have knowledge of this or other issues.

That's a good price for a M500 in the described condition. I'm no Mossberg expert, but as best I recall the full length magazine tube M500s have 20" barrels, not 18.5". Wouldn't slow me down from making the deal though.

Agree with the others. I've got a Mossy 590 and love love love it. Never had any safety issues that I didn't cause, like looking down the sights and going ***? Oh, thumb, BOOM!

been around mossberg 500's my whole life....no safety problems here. (Own 2 currently)

If you are happy with the barrel that comes on the gun, then go for it. If, for some reason, down the road, you might want to purchase another barrel for it, you may be restricted if the barrel lug is farther forward than any accessory barrel may be.

New ones with a 28" smooth barrel and 4 or 5 chokes are $229 at Walmart.

Its a good price. I love the mossber 500s and 590s. I would buy without hesitation.

Certainly not a bad buy whatsoever, but I might take a look at a Maverick 88 with 18.5 barrel NIB for $30 more.

I picked it up. It's a 20". It is clean buts needs to be wiped down, but it functions fine and the finish is in good shape. I like this gun; light, short, good capacity, etc. I wanted a 500 over a Mav 88 because i like the Mossberg top safety better than a crossbolt. It won't win any picture contests, but it will be a good HD shotty.
