Hey, I have a buddy that has a Ruger MKIII Hunter that he is looking to get rid of. He offered it to me for $300. It probably has 5000+ rounds through it. Looks pretty good to me. What should I look for that will communicate problems with it? Normal areas that wear quickest? Any comments would be great. Thank you!

Any wear should be cosmetic or the result of improper takedown or "gunsmithing." I think $300 is a good price for a Hunter though they don't come up for sale used much. New they go from $425-500.

Don't buy it just give me his # and I'll talk to him about the price.

For $300 I would get it. I have been looking at the MKIII hunter SS for a while now. I just have a hard time turning loose of 429-499 I have seen them go for. If I had an offer for one in good shape (which it should be since it hasn't been out long) I would pick it up for $300

They've not been out that long, if its good shape and has not been bubba'd I'd go for it.

I just paid NIB around $450. IT's a good deal. If you need a .22LR pistol I'd get it.

:evil:have him take it all apart, then tell him you'll give him 250 or your gonna go buy a brand new browning that is alot easier to take apart and clean and put back together!!
new buckmarks go for about 320!

That's a great price for a Hunter. I'd grab it.

A quick look at the completed auctions on gunbroker shows MKIII Hunter have recently sold for:
-$385
-$409
-$385.

Keep in mind that in addition to the gunbroker amount these buyers also had to pay shipping of probably at least $20 and FFL fees of at least $20.

The Ruger is NOT difficult to take apart or put back together IF you read the instruction manual and follow each step exactly as described. Once you break it down a few times it's a snap. The first time or two can be a little frustrating but if you have trouble after that you might not be smart enough to own the gun and should immediately sell it to me for $100. :)

Wow, I just got a hold of it. I can't find a ding, dent, or worn piece. It is in immaculate shape! Score one for the good guy! (me) :) Can't wait to get this to the range today! It is reaaaallly nice. Thanks for all the info guys I appreciate it!

I'm glad you got it and like it. Now shoot the daylights out of it!

And buy your friend that sold it to you a beer or three for giving you such a good deal. Better yet get him a bottle of his favorite spirits. a)he deserves it b)He'll think nicely of you whenever he has some and you can be sure that when he parts with the next firearm at a great price you'll get the first chance to buy it.

Picked up a HK USP .40 S&W Tactical + a slough of accessories for $500. He's a really nice guy. I will have to buy him some spirits! Thanks for the tip!
