The Bureau of Justice Statistics published a telling study showing the decline in violence and firearms related violence. They also point out the common types and sources of firearms used by criminals.

It isn't surprising to see that there's been a reduction in firearms related crimes nor that most firearms are illegally acquired (no "goody guy" checks).

hso,

Thanks for posting this. I've been studying it for a few days now and as you say, "no surprise".

But interesting to me is that yesterday while driving I heard portions of the President's news conference explaining the Iranian Nuclear deal. A few Q & As later President Obama made reference, not to the report per SE but, to some of the info in it when he said something on the order of, although crime rates and violent crimes using firearms are down, in some places like my "home town of Chicago", in certain neighborhoods, they are still too high. In places like that there is probably a need for greater police presence and visibility.

Well duh,! But at least we know that he knows. More laws won't fix anything and he knows that.

And if you show the PDF to some Anti-Rights fanatics they will accuse you of "Misinterpreting the data" simply because it does not fit their personal and political views.
