I'd like to buy USFA Rodeo in the near future and am new to the Denver area. I live just south of Denver, but am willing to go anywhere within a hour plus drive to see a Rodeo in person. Any recommendations on gun shops? Thanks.

Thanks guys. It would be nice to see one before ordering. Any gun shows coming up around here where I might see one?

You might try Green Mountain Guns in lakewood, they tend to have a lot of stuff. Also, isn't there a shop on wadsworth at about 36th or so? Mountain Man guns or something?????

The shows are every couple weeks in the merchandise mart at 58th and I-25

Welcome to Colorado

Thanks Bozeman. I'll check them out. Sure is nice out here, but the CCW laws are a little tougher than back in PA. I've been shooting all my life and now have to take a shooting course. Oh well, not the worst thing in the world and I'll proably learn something, but still a PITA and $$$.

Pilot,

Welcome to Colorado!

Take a look at this site courtesy of a fellow THR member, Mr. Dove. Lots of good info for the Colorado Shooter.

I haven't handled a USFA Rodeo myself, but have heard nothing but good things about them. My gun guy shoots a lot of .45LC, and his opinion is that the Beretta Stampede is the best value in a SAA clone at the moment. The Rodeo is the closest to the original though.

If you know what you want, and are willing to wait a day or two, the best prices can be found at Tom & Joe's. (phone and address under Mr. Dove's website) He has a teeny tiny shop, and doesn't have a whole lot in stock, but his prices are great.

Green Mountain Guns is also a pretty good place. Decent prices, good selection, and ok service. (Their used/consignment case almost always contains bargains.)

Check out this site too. Bookmark it for the gun show listings if nothing else.

Thanks Wardog. Good information. I'll probably just end up ordering a Rodeo. Can you suggest a good ragne to take the required course for a CCW permit? Thanks again, especially for the welcome.

Well I finally saw a USFA Rodeo in person at The Firing Line in Aurora, CO. In fact they had a nice selection of Single Action revolvers. The Rodeo was my favorite by far, but they wanted well over $700 for it!!! You can normally get these for under $500 from what I can tell. I disturbed the gunshop guy behind the counter from his McDonald's lunch and asked to look at it. It seemed very well made. I asked, why the very high price? He just said' "Well they'll be going up soon too." Gee thanks, see ya. I'll order one and save $250. Any recommedations on an FFL around here who'll do the transfer? Thanks.

Yeah, The Firing Line has some of the highest prices around now that Dean's Firearms is gone. The K-2 Firing Range in Lakewood probably runs second in high prices to The Firing Line.

Give Tom at Tom & Joe's a call. (303) 231-0998. He'll quote you a price over the phone. He's sold a lot of those. He also shoots a lot of .45LC single actions and can tell you a lot about them. If it's not the best price you find I'll be surprised.

Wardog,

I stopped in and Tom had a 5 1/2" Rodeo there, but I want the 4 5/8" barrel. He's going to call and see if he can get one tomorrow. THANKS for the info. He seems like a good guy. I owe you big time.

Edit: Well I'm back to square one. The prices have gone up to $700 on the Rodeos. Tom said they will come back down again, but ordering right now is out of the question. I've seen a few on the internet for less than $500, so I'll probably go that route. I'll just have to shoot my Blackhawk this weekend and pretend its an SAA.

Sorry about the price increase. That's too bad.

Yeah, I consider Tom a friend. Some people have different opinions though.

When I rekindled my interest in firearms several years ago I stopped in at his shop. Back then I wasn't too impressed with his tiny little place. Big, organized, well-merchandised stores impressed me more. But after learning a lot more (mostly from here, thanks everyone) I now (usually) know exactly what I want before I hit the stores. So, for me it simply comes down to price.

I used to buy from a guy that sold at gun shows. His prices were fantastic and his selection was unbelieveable. I bought several guns from him. I picked up a business card and realized he didn't have a shop, he just had an FFL and sold out of his garage and at shows. Several months later I was checking out his table and noticed his prices had gone way up. Looked at his new business cards, and sure enough, he had moved into a store front.

So, I don't want anything to change over at Tom's. A one man show keeps the overhead down.

Hey, that works for me. No reason to pay for the huge storefront if you know what you want. I was finally able to order the Rodeo from an auction site at a good price. I will have it in a few days, and will post my impressions and ragne report when I get it. Thanks for all your help.

BTW, you're Peter, right? Great website, and beautiful aircraft pics. How do you get your air-to-air shots? As this is O.T., please feel free to email me at [email protected].
