Background:

I bought a USP .45 on my 21st birthday. That was 8 1/2 years ago. I've
put countless thousands of rounds through it, and it still shoots like a dream,
perhaps even a wet dream. I am of the belief that it is the finest .45 caliber
pistol ever made, except for fancier versions of itself.

I got it lightly used with 3 mags for $500 in 1998.

Lately I've been wondering if its worth the trade in and extra money for a
"tactical" version? Anybody have experience with it ??

thanks.

do what the rest of us HK owners do: keep what you have, and get another one.

Sounds like very good advice.:) Serious, don't get rid of a good friend, get him a companion.

I agree. I'm not an HK guy, yet...:D

But the biggest mistake I've made, in reference to guns, was trading in one for another. Now all I do is obsess about the one I traded.

I'll never trade another gun.

If you can't buy outright, save your money until you can buy it outright.

I certainly wouldn't get rid of one that I have a close relationship with, especially if you are deadly accurate with it.

Hope this doesn't seem harsh or like I'm piling on. But friends don't let friends trade guns.

With that being said...The Tactical does look like an awesome pistol. And it is also a current obsession (which is the reason for the "yet..." comment in the second sentence.)

Keep your old friend. You will be sorry if you get rid of it.

Also, why do you want the Tactical? Will you really take advantage of the features? Or do you want it because its "tactical"?

My advice is to never sell a good gun that you like for something new that may or may not be as good. If you think you want the tacticle version put the money together and buy it. If after owning both you decide the new gun is shot more and can take the place of the old one THEN sell the old pistol.

I wouldn't sell your current USP, however the tactical is definitly worth it. It is nothing short of incredible in the accuracy department, and its not picky either. I use it for coyote huting! It doesn't matter what load I put through it, they all seem to shoot well. My brother in law had a glock 21 that he shot very well and swore he would never part with it. Until he shot my tactical......It was off to trade the 21 for the USP tactical in 45. He traded because as long as he had the HK he would never take the Glock out, and I tend to agree. Whatever you decision, the USP Tactical is WORTH IT!

Unless you're hanging a can on the end, skip buying the Tactical and make yourself tactical instead.

I would certainly keep the USP 45 you have as you know it works. The Tactical is nice and if you want a better trigger and adjustable sights for the range then get one. I have both and the Tactical is more shootable. If you're considering CCW or home defense I'ld be somewhat concerned over the threaded barrel and how it would effect you in court.

Dont sell that USP

Some of the older ones are made better than the new ones.

Wonder why they don't just put the "better trigger" and sights on all of them?

Wonder why they don't just put the "better trigger" and sights on all of them?

Sights are standard 3 dots dove tailed. What is better than that? Beretta has 3 dots, Sig with their dot and post, GLOCK with U and dot. Really now?

As for better trigger, there are some gun who some say have good trigger, but they can't seem to make it to work right reliably out of the box.

Why can't they just make a gun that work properly as designed out of the box? It's not that difficult you know, HK/GLOCK/Beretta been doing it for years.

to the original poster, save up and get the MK 23 instead.

My state won't let me get a Tac, so I got the next best thing...an Expert. I'm glad I have both :D ...you should keep your old faithful & just add-on ;)

I've got a Tac, but only because I suppressed it. I don't think it is worth paying for the threaded barrel and tall sights w/o a can.

I really love shooting it though, great gun.

If you like your .45 USP full sized pistol, you will absolutely love the Tactical. O ring barrel for increased accuracy, match trigger with over travel screw, have adjustable meprolight night sights installed, threaded barrel if you ever have a desire for a suppressor. It's worth it. How do I know? Been there, done that. I even got the t-shirt and the coffee mug.

Maybe it would cost an extra $300 to make a better trigger standard? Does HK still have plastic triggers?

Love mine.

Most accurate handgun I own, one-hole groups up to max range at my local indoor shooting range. Love all the features from the trigger to the sights and everything in between. Too big for me as a carry gun, this one is all home defense and range pistol. No silencer yet, but I'm planning on going through the process this year to get the permit for one, of course I said this last year:uhoh:

I don't agree that the gun is not worth it if you don't have a silencer for it. The gun has many nice features only found on the USP Expert and MK23 models and for a lot less money. Like others stated above the added barrel length is nice, the trigger, barrel o-ring, sights. Lots of nice features. I also love the carrying case it came with, such a nice touch!

usp 45s rule

i bought a used usp.45 FS 3 years ago that was magnaported and didnt even have any paint removed from the top of the barrel block. evidently owner sent it in to magnaport, put a couple of rounds through it the got rid of it. what an idiot. added an adapter rail & an m6x light/ laser, MMC tritium night sights and a hogue glock sock. shoots damn well. (1.75 groups at 25yds) only time ive ever had a prob was shooting steel cased ruskie ammo just to break it in. case expanded while still in the barrel, and the extractor ripped the rim off the empty shell casing. after 20min of ramming a cleaning rod against the inside of the spent case and pulling the slide did it come out:banghead: . i originally wanted the tactical but didnt have the cash so i bought the usp .45 FS. a year and a half later my tax return got me the tactical. even better gun. I love mine.was shooting golf balls at 50 yds off a sand bag @ the range last weekend. moved all the goodies except the sights to my tactical, added a votex muzzel break and a thread protector, then sold the FS to my sister. the only downside is trying to find quality holsters that fit with the adapter rail installed. dont get rid of anything HK.:)

I have not been able to scratch my HK itch (to add another HK to the collection!) lately....I'm hoping it'll be one of the new HK45 that arrive in the next year or so.....

well i own 2 h&k's and 1 flaw that they all have is their price.i have a 45 compact and a 45tac and they are both balls on accurate.my compact is my ccw.

I once met with a guy who was selling both a USP45 and USP45 tac. I was interested in both but could only afford one. I asked him if the extras on the tac made it worth the extra price, and he (remember now, he was the SELLER) said probably not. I really appreciated his honesty, seeing as how he could have made an extra 200 bucks off me if he had answered differently.
