It also explains why half the stuff that The Dark Knight posts doesn't make any sense to me - Jersey scored #2.

Is there a list of how the states are ranked?

I'd go look on the Brady site, but I don't want them to count my hit on their webpage.

first-ever “zero,” earned by Utah
Not only a zero, but brady's FIRST EVAR ZERO! Helll yea!

By the way, the 79 that stupid california got says a lot, because tens of thousands of californians have moved HERE. How telling. We have an extra motivation for cali to clean up it's act so they'll stop moving here :D

I won't be happy until we start going into negative numbers.
That would constitute a state militia that issues full autos to take home

All kidding aside, utah deserves one point for requiring the unconstitutional permit. If Wyoming will pass Vermont carry, then the pressure will be on to get rid of that one point.

Keep in mind that this is their score on how well a state tries to fight "illegal gun trafficking", not their gun laws overall.

That's a different scoring system.

I noticed that according to their chart that grades each state only Maryland requires integrated locks on handguns.

Texasrifleman

You may be right.

Keep in mind that this is their score on how well a state tries to fight "illegal gun trafficking", not their gun laws overall.

However, what do child safety locks, integrated locks on handguns and such have to do with "illegal gun trafficking".

To me this is just their ranking of state gun laws under a different guise.

Oh I didn't say it made any sense :)

Having lived in Utah and now residing in Arizona (which got a 2 out of 100), I can tell you that those 2 points make a difference! :)

Utah's gun laws (and in some cases lack of absurd laws) are well thought out and logical. I would hope that more states take a long hard look at this fantastic example.

Yikes Michigan is 23 out of a hundred. However we get 2 points for testing which is kind of funny if you have ever taken the "test". Its ten questions that are pretty simple and from what I've heard (I got 10 of 10 so I'm not sure) they tell you what you got wrong and allow you to retake the test immediately. Still we have a long way to go before we can get a perfect score.

We have the same problem here. :)

Ditto. Though not as bad lately since the economy tanked, back in 04-08 there were tons of californites moving into AZ and then immediately grousing about the gun laws. They all received a resounding "TOUGH ****" when bringing up the issue. Since then, the laws have only gotten better with the expansion of castle doctrine to personal space, vehicle, and the addition of a deterring display provision to prevent an attack. No longer does display = brandishing = automatic jail. Bravo AZ!

OH, most important of all: The burden of proof is now on the state to prove any laws were broken in a self defense shooting, instead of the burden of proof being on the defensive shooter to prove her way OUT of a conviction.

Ahhh Utah... I dream of being back in your warm embrace... And I never realized how much a part of my life the mountains were till there were none

Go AZ! sonick, don't forget an expansion of the defensive display has passed the Senate and in the House no, plus Consitutional Carry, if we can strip that poison pill Democrat amendment, plus a whole host of other improvements. Our laws do get better every year!
