Brady Campaign Releases State Gun Control Grades

If you look at how the points are scored its really pretty nuts. Also I went to the brady home page and LOVE how nuts they are going about the starbucks thing. THAT SHOWS WE DID OUR JOB.

I'm surprised about Pa also.

"I'm surprised that Pennsylvannia did so poorly. I always thought we were one of the better states.
Especially compared to the other northeastern states."

I didn't think we were that bad. Can't figure the Brady system because I know there are other states worse than us. Since Governor Spendells term is up soon, he's been kissing some serious Washington DC butt lately. Maybe he's even trying to get a job with the Bradys.

I am very disappointed in Alabama. We have 16 points to go... not good enough. We're only 12 points away from IL - that's a disgrace.

Speaking of population, vs. density as it it might relate to crime....

"When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall
become as currupt as Europe." Thomas Jefferson

I'm pretty sure IN was an 8 last year when I started getting the ball rolling on my CCW. I'm digging the 6:D

Wow, something about my home state losing that I can feel good about! :-D

How in the heck did we score a 17 <hanging his head in shame>. We can do better to get that score down. We have loaded open carry, castle doc and we are a "shall" state. Geez, what do we have to do?

The Brady Campaign is avoiding the violent crime issue altogether. Here's what Brady says about our winner Utah:

Brady's angle is illegal gun trafficking. So, according to Brady logic, Utah is highly responsible for illegal gun trafficking in America. That would make California (Brady's winner) barely responsible for illegal gun trafficking in America. As a California resident, I am pretty darn sure there are quite a number of illegal guns being trafficked in California, especially Los Angeles County where getting a CCW permit is basically not possible for regular people.

Wow, these guys don't even care how much the crap smells coming out of their mouths.
Individual state scores range from 0 to 79. Utah is the only state that scored zero out of 100 possible points. “Because Utah does not require Brady criminal background checks on all firearm sales, including those at gun shows, gun traffickers can easily funnel illegal guns to felons and gang members,” said Gary Sackett, spokesman for the Gun Violence Prevention Center of Utah.

Dare I point out, that gun traffickers are LEGALLY funneling guns if they are going so though a Utah gun show ;) ?? I mean, save for alleged providing them to felons.

The legality of such circumstances is exactly why they are up in arms about this, no?

Your statement is very unclear, so I'm not sure what you're getting at. It's totally ILLEGAL to act as a straw buyer to provide a gun to someone not legally allowed to buy it themselves.

Maybe if the NCIS system was legally available to private citizens (not mandated, but available), individuals would choose to run those background checks of their own volition. Right now, we don't even have the option.

There's nothing unique about a gun show vs. meeting at an Arby's parking lot to sell a gun. Dealers are always required to run a check. Private citizens are free to sell their private property as they see fit. FBI stats continually bear out that a statistically insignificant number of guns used in crimes are bought at gun shows.
