So i want to know my rights for conceal carry since i got my permit. But my friends have also been asking lots of questions. Like, can i carry in my car if i dont have a permit? If not, can i keep a loaded mag in the console and my gun under the seat. along with selling used firearms and laws that are more specific.

anyone know where i find laws that give me specifics so i dont get in trouble with anything?

I checked utah.gov but it just says stuff like

"It is lawful to carry a firearm "capable of being concealed" in one’s home or place of business without a permit.

It is unlawful to carry a loaded firearm on any public street without a permit."

so i want to know if i carry a gun unloaded does it have to have the chamber open or what are the specifics etc.....

can anyone help me

Yes i do and yes i have taken the course. I have a general knowledge of the carry laws but i want a place to look up specific laws even if you dont have a carry permit.

When I took the Utah course, I received a book with all the state's gun laws in it. Did you? I thought it was part of the mandated course materials.

I'm assuming from your name, you're a UVU guy, cool.

Here's the thing. Utah's laws are some of the best in the nation. We were the first state to ever get an "F" grade from the brady bunch. (This year we were narrowly passed up by AZ, we will have to work on that.) The BAD news is, we have had a lot of laws change (for the better) in the last several years, and a lot of cops (and CCW instructors who are ALSO cops) (Oh yeah, I said it,) don't stay current on the law.

Specifically to your situation, you do NOT need a permit to carry loaded in your car.

Your employer CANNOT ban you from having a gun in your vehicle in the parking lot. (HOWEVER, if you work somewhere like Hill AFB, that is FEDERAL property, and the protection does not apply.)

Without a permit, you cannot carry a loaded firearm on a public street. However, the law pertaining to revolvers is poorly worded, and could be read to mean that one OR two chambers in the cylinder must be empty for it to not be loaded. The solution is to get a permit and not worry about it.

With a permit, you can legally open carry anywhere you can concealed carry. HOWEVER, don't expect to be able to walk up 400 S in Salt Lake without getting eyeballed and possibly the police called on you. Maybe I'm exaggerating a little. Most people, if they saw you with a gun would probably assume you were some kind of cop and ignore you. But I could walk down the street in my hometown in southern Utah and no one would look twice. (And have done so many times.)

Buy "Utah Gun Law: Pancho's Wisdom" by Mitch Vilos. (Then make arrangements to put him on retainer in the event you are charged with a gun crime.) I believe they are on the third edition now. he spells out the letter of state, local, and federal laws as they pertain to guns in Utah, and then clarifies them.

Good luck, but laws rarely say what you CAN DO.

They mostly describe what you CANNOT DO.
