Okay lets start thinking about this winter shoot. I'm leaning towards the area known as "Little Moab". Suggestions welcome, but being winter I don't want to go too far out, and camping could be an option there.

I've been in Utah all my life, "Little Moab? I'm not sure exactly where you mean. Time? - anytime is good. There are hundreds / thousands of places in the West desert.

West side of Utah Lake, go down "Camp Williams Road/Redwood Road" to mile marker 8. Just past that, there is a power line that follows a dirt road between farms (which are private property). In about a mile, you'll come to a cattle guard, on the other side of which is BLM land. Its a small valley. On the south side about 5 miles west of the cattle gaurd there are some big rocks that resemble the slickrock in Moab. Alot of 4x4 owners go there to test modifications. Alot of people ride dirtbikes and whatnot back there. I've seen people shooting back there, and AFAIK it is BLM land which shouldn't be a problem for lighting a few rounds off.

Ok, I know the area, other than being a popular ATV riding spot there are lots of places to shoot.

I am new to the forum, but would be intersted in a shoot out there. We have wheeled out there a little bit & done some clay shooting too. I would be interested in any of those days really. It is far enough ahead that I don't have anything planned yet. Just let me know for sure what day. I have a couple guys at least that I can bring with me. What will we be shooting?

Yeah, post the details - I'm in if I can make it.

Any thoughts about doing it out by Tooele so we can make it a rabbit shoot too?

Anything and everything. I've got a new .50cal muzzleloader, so I'll probably shoot that alot.

As for Tooele, I'm not sure where to shoot out there. I'm not very familiar with that whole area.

Sounds like fun, but I'm too busy with the new gunstore to shoot. And that sucks. I'm even going to miss the annual UDPL 3gun match, which is always a blast. Have gun guys.

Eric, when are you going to come by and see us?

I can't speak for the LeatherMaster, but I am thinking about tomorrow (Monday the 2nd), if I can find the thread with the directions. :p

Well, I live out here, so I could probably come up with a place or three. The biggest problem is that most of them are dependent on the weather staying as nice as it is. Getting up into the hills in snow is noooo fun.
I don't know what to tell you about the rabbits -- are we looking for Jacks, or Cottontails? I've seen both around here, but I don't know squat about finding/hunting them.

If you guys decide on Tooele, let me know. I'll be able to help find a location.

Wes

So, what sort of events happen at these shoots? I live in Logan and I would be interested in going to this on any of the dates above, although for me, sooner rather than later is better.

No real events. Just shooting, shooting, shooting each others guns, and shooting the bull too. Maybe some deuling pistols or gong-a-thons if anyone has one.

How about long range slow fire shooting with centerfire rifles? Is this the type of thing where people just shoot however they choose? I guess a lot of that would depend on location.

The area I want to shoot is pretty wide open (BLM land), so you could probably easily shoot out to about 500 yards. Consider it an organized free-for-all.
I'm leaning towards the 4th.

Now I understand, thanks a lot. If it makes any difference, I would prefer the area you mentioned around Camp Williams over Moab, even if the weather is not on our side.

Its not actually Moab...its nickname is Little Moab because there is some slickrock formations back in there.
Its about 30 minutes south of Camp Williams.

Okay sorry I've been behind the power curve on this, I've been sick with two sick children....I know I know excuses...arses....something like that, right?
My BIL will be in town on the 28th and likes to shoot when he can, so I'm going to make a command decision and pick the 28th. Late morning, the area known as "little Moab". Caravan from my house or meet down there, directions and such to follow.

Rollcall.

Sorry, I've been watching the weather closely

Okay the forcast looks good enough. Barring any large accumulations of snow, here's the plan.
Meet at the 'crossroads' area. Here is a mapquest link
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.ad...ne=&cat=&address=&city=lehi&state=ut&zipcode=
At 10am on Saturday. That's the intersection of Highway 73 and Highway 68. Park on the SW side of the intersection, I'll be driving a silver Suzuki XL7.
Or meet at my house @0900 dept nlt 0915. Email me directly for my address.
The shooting area is South west of Utah Lake a good ways. 4x4 or awd highly recommended as the road is dirt and will likely have some snow. If you're running behind, go south on 68 to MM8. On the right, there will be a dirt road that follows some power lines between some private farms. Go over the cattle gaurd and look off to the right for my vehicle, not sure exactly where we'll park. I should have some wood to get a fire going.
Please RSVP so I know who to look for.

Tomorrow now has a big question mark on it...looks like the WX forcast may have been missed, as its snowing quite heavily. I'll post in the AM if it gets cancelled so check this post before going tomorrow.
