From the VCDL:
Take a deep breath and read on. I am trying to keep our focus on
Virginia, but events dictate otherwise right now:

I have just confirmed with Senator Warner's office in DC that he is
putting in a bill with DIANNE FEINSTEIN and CHUCK SCHUMER to extend
the Assault Weapons Ban, as is, for another 10 YEARS!!!

I am so mad, I am having a hard time writing this!

The aide that I talked to didn't know the difference between a
flash-suppressor and a silencer, asked why I needed a bayonet lug
(this is America - I don't need one, but I want one), and basically
said that Warner was just doing something that the Administration
wanted!

I told him there WOULD be a price to pay at the polls in November for
anyone who supports the AWB in any shape or form. He asked, "What
would you do, put a Democrat in as President?"

I said, "If I, and the rest of America, wanted a ban on assault
weapons, we would have voted for gun-haters. Instead most of them
got kicked out. If Warner gives me such a ban, then he is no better
than any other gun-hater and I will just stay home election day and
watch TV and let the chips land where they may. If the election is
as tight as they say it is going to be, and President Bush signs this
atrocity, then Bush will find that gun owners who got him elected the
last time will turn their backs and walk away."

WHAT TO DO

Ladies and gentlemen we are at a cross-roads and we must act now or
forever hold our peace (actually the government is busy trying to
take away our "pieces"). Senator Allen has said that he would only
back an AWB if it was exactly like the one we have now. Guess what
Senator Warner just gave him? So now we have BOTH Virginia senators
in a position to sell us all out. This is Virginia, not New York!
We can sit still and take it OR we can flood, and I mean flood, their
lines with phone calls and back those calls up with emails. Don't
count on the emails alone, they need to get overwhelmed with phone
calls!

My freedom is worth a couple of long distance calls and I am sure you
feel the same - so let's make those calls NOW! Things are moving
fast and there is no time to waste.

Suggested email / talking points

Do NOT support a renewal of the Assault Weapons Ban (AWB)!

Bill Clinton lamented that anger over the original ban 10 years ago
cost the Democrats control of both the House and Senate. Don't be so
sure that it can't be reversed. President Bush barely won the last
election - and it was gun owners that got him elected. If the AWB
passes, I can, and will, turn my back on ANYONE who supported that
ban. I will stay home on election day and let the chips fall where
they may. If I want gun control, I can get it from the Democrats,
who at least will tell me the truth about their intentions and not
stab me in the back. I do not want to hear about how you support our
precious freedoms as you are busy destroying them.

However, it's not too late to change your mind and become statesman
and not just another politician tearing up the Constitution.

I will be following what happens with the AWB very closely.

Do the right thing for the law-abiding citizens of this great country
and let the AWB sunset in September!

Sincerely,
[your name]
[your address]

Don't tell them you will stay home on election day, tell them you will vote for Kerry in order to teach Bush and the Republican Party a lesson to remember.

Be sure to tell them that this issue will make you CHANGE YOUR VOTE, and that while not everyone will call, you have LOTS of friends who feel the same way.

Don't tell them you'll sit home, as doing so isn't wise. Don't tell them you'll vote Dem, as that's not any better. Tell them you'll vote Lib or Const, since they line up better with your values.

That's my Senator! :barf:

...but, but, but we're wasting our votes on Libertarians. The Republicans will slow down the War on Gun Rights.

This is just plain disgusting. Warner has been a jerk since he stabbed Ollie North in the back here in VA 10 years ago... I honestly believe he's only stayed in office because of his fights to keep our bases open during the last round of BRAC. But this time... forget it. I will never vote for him again, that's for sure.

tell them you will vote for Kerry in order to teach Bush and the Republican Party a lesson to remember
Please, if you're going to cast a protest vote, cast it for someone for whom it will be recognized as a pro-RKBA protest. A vote for Kerry will be interpreted by incumbents and others as an endorsement of his agenda.

VA - Sen Warner goes with Slimestein and The Joker

Tell them you're voting for Chris P. Carrot and put the fear of God in them. Tell them Chris, and his running mate Colonel Corn have never lied to you.

Don't worry about your assault weapons, neither party is going to ban them til after the election when it's safe. My prediction is it will be one of the first pieces of legislation introduced - they know that the general populace has short memories and will have forgotten about it in the 2 years to the next election.

Warner and a few others need reminding

The NRA and gun owners in Virginia need to turn up the heat on Senator Warner. He and all of the "untouchable" senators that have been sitting in their comfortable offices since the early 80's have apparently come to believe they were elected to their offices because they know what's best for all of us commoners and they will only listen to their electorate when it's mutually convenient for them to do so.

This vote is too important to be left up to last minute speculation, uncertainty and back room trade-offs. Like Wayne LaPierre said in Reno at the 2002 NRA convention, "You're either with us or against us!!"

Warner:

You miserable, pompidored, backstabbing, son of a bitch.

I will do everything legally possible and within the extent of my abilities as a citizen of the State of Virginia to ensure that this ignorant bastard is not re-elected.

And what possible reason is there to vote Republican at any level now?

Backstabbing bastards.

Just wait for the other waste of oxygen Sen. Allen to co-sponsor this.

Lying, backstabbing, Rhino bastards.

Assault Weapons Ban Picks Up GOP Support

WASHINGTON - Three Republican senators agreed Tuesday to support renewal of the soon-to-expire assault weapons ban, a small victory for gun control proponents as the Senate prepares to wade into several contentious gun issues this election year.

The GOP-controlled Senate plans to take up legislation Wednesday that would immunize gun manufacturers and distributors from lawsuits that arise from crimes in which guns were used.

Senate Republicans have enough votes to approve the legislation. Democrats plan to force votes on at least two other gun issues they want to attach to it, however, amendments to renew the assault weapons ban and to require background checks for all purchasers at gun shows.

Gun rights groups plan to urge majority Republicans to defeat both measures. The GOP-controlled House already has said it does not plan to approve the extension of the assault weapons ban.

"To protect the future of America's millions of gun owners, it is vital that the Senate pass (the lawsuits immunization bill) without any antigun amendments," the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action said on its Web site.

The White House also urged the Senate to pass the legislation without amendments.

"The administration urges the Senate to pass a clean bill, in order to ensure enactment of the legislation this year," the White House said in a statement. "Any amendment that would delay enactment of the bill beyond this year is unacceptable."

Getting the 1994 assault weapons prohibition renewed has been a Democratic priority this year. They picked up support Tuesday from GOP Sens. John Warner of Virginia, Mike DeWine of Ohio and Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island.

"Although I voted against the ban a decade ago, over the past 10 years it has reduced crime dramatically and has made our streets safer," Warner said. "The legislation also has protected the rights of gun owners better than many of us predicted."

The three GOP senators' support does not guarantee the amendment's approval in the Senate, but "this gives the effort to renew the assault weapons ban new momentum," said Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., a sponsor of the original assault weapons ban.

Republicans, along with several Senate Democrats, have been pushing for the gun immunity legislation for some time. Gun advocates say firearm makers shouldn't be forced to spend millions of dollars fighting off lawsuits designed to win large rewards and bankrupt them for making legal products.

"The manufacturer or seller of a legal, nondefective product should not be held liable for the criminal or unlawful misuse of that product by others," the White House said.

Democrats like Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota agreed to get behind the legislation after gun supporters accepted a specification that firearms manufacturers and distributors would not be protected from lawsuits that involved defective products or illegal sales.

Warner you lying bastard. This is like something out of Orwell's 1984.

After cooling down...

I just sent the good Senator half a tome... Well maybe a little more than half.

Let's not forget Senators Chaffee and Dewine - two Republicans who also defected to the other side despite the express wishes of the White House and their party leader.

You lying, traitorous sack of #&%$!! I have a letter right here in my hands from you, saying that you believe that the our semi-auto weapons were "mischaracterized as ‘assault' weapons" and that these weapons were banned "primarily on their cosmetic appearance".

You also state in the letter that you "strongly support the constitutional right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms"... any other lies you want to try to feed us? :fire:

Well, I'm not voting for Rep. Wolf, nor Sen. Warner, and looks like Sen. Allen won't be getting my support either. The Republicans that ‘represent' me in Federal gov't are battin' a thousand on my gun rights!

Don't forget that these same so-called Republicans in the Virginia legislature are fixing to give us one of the largest tax increases in State History this week. Larger than even the one proposed by Governor Warner, a Democrat.

I just sent this to both Warner and Allen.
Dear Senator Warner (Allen):
I am shocked and appalled to hear that you are not only supporting, but sponsoring renewal of, the Clinton's so-called assault weapons ban. This demonstrably ineffective legislation will do nothing to reduce crime in the Old Dominion, and it will at best inconvenience, and at worst imprison, law-abiding citizens who own or buy a weapon with certain cosmetic features arbitrarily banned.

Senator, I and my wife, along with many of our friends and acquaintances in Northern Virginia and the Northern Neck have been long-time supporters of you and the Republican Party in Virginia. If you forsake us now and join the flaming left wing of the Hollywood elite, that support WILL cease to exist overnight. I most respectfully ask you to consider seriously the corrosive effect your misguided support for this sham legislation will have at the polls. I assure you: my friends and associates do vote and we are watching your actions on this issue closely.

Respectfully Yours,

[Leatherneck]

Man, I'm so steamed I could spit nails! I don't think these guys get it: if not, they're in for some shock and awe at the polls!
