Virginians, unite against Warner! Draft a man who will represent us!

Warner isn't up for election until 2008, but that gives us time to convince a man of integrity and vision to run to represent OUR ideals -- Representative Virgil Goode.

If you're not familiar with Rep. Goode, he was a Virginia Senator for 26 years. He was the man who authored and forced through the Senate the law that gives ALL law-abiding Virginians the right to carry a concealed handgun.

As a member of the Federal House, Goode was one of the only (if not the only) Democrats to vote FOR impeachment of President Clinton.

The Democrats began talking about punishment, and Goode simply withdrew from the Democratic party and became an independent. Vowing revenge, the Democrats ran a complete and total chump against Goode in 2002. Goode ran away with the election, garnering 67% of the votes cast to his opponent's 31%.

This year the Democrats are running another chump, Al Weed. It's already predicted that the results will be much the same as in 2002.

As a Democrat both in Virginia and in Washington, Goode often sided with Republicans on issues of importance. He could best be described as being a very conservative Democrat, or a moderate to liberal Republican.

He's shown great courage in voting NOT the party line, but his convictions and the convictions those whom he represents.

We need to start working NOW to convince Virgil Goode to take on John Warner in 2008.

Here's his web site.

Find out some more about him, and start e-mailing, calling, and writing to let him know that we want him to run in 2008.

Right on, Mike. As a long-time supporter of John Warner (all the way back to his SecNav days) I feel betrayed. It's time to kick his elitist butt out of office. Virgil Goode seems a much better choice. Let's let Warner know that his days are numbered. Bastidge! :fire:

I can't believe Warner did it

Along with Mike Barnes (Pres. of the Brady Campaign), he is a disgrace to the Marine Corps. (Can you tell I'm PO'd??)

What's funny is that the MD State Police testified AGAINST the MD AWB, but Warner is claiming that Virginia LEO's actually SUPPORT an AWB:rolleyes:

The last LEO community I would accuse of JBTism is VA's. What gives?

I'm sorry. A lot of us, and I mean a lot of us, are very angry at Warner, Smith, Lugar, GREGG of NH of all people. Gregg's up for election this year. Warner isn't up until 2008, Lugar isn't until 2006. Oregon's recall election provision is pretty high up too in terms of required signatures.

I just want to stick it to these :cuss:. Send Warner to retirement 4 years early, Get Virgil Goode in the Senate!

if he were up for re-election this year, there's no way he woulda voted for it. he's counting on short memories of the voters in VA.

... sellout b****** Warner...
He has been selling it since day one; I don't see why anybody would support JW but what do I know? He gets elected like clockwork. :cuss:

Please, surely no one here is in the least surprised by this vote? Warner is a disgrace, through and through, and needs to go. But he's a true RINO and NEVER disappoints in that regard. I've known for years exactly how he'd vote. The only question was how George Allen would cast his lot.

I'll say this for Warner. Some years back I wrote a very civil letter asking him to support some gun measure or another. This was no cut-n-paste job off an NRA or GOA mass mailing - I actually took the time to write him, individually, a letter.

He wrote back and, sniffing in indignation, told me to pound sand. John Warner, he continued, did not take his marching orders from any "special interest group."

Sorry, Leatherneck, Warner's USMC service gives him no more of a free pass now than does John Kerry's USN service some thirty years ago. They've both got to go.

Run, Virgil, Run!!!

Hey, I concur! George Allen responded to my e-mail asking him to switch: twice within 24 hours! And then he did switch, even though he had to reverse a campaign promise to do so. Warner still hasn't responded at all. When I see Warner, I think "Kennedy". :cuss:

Warner can proudly stand as the only state level Republican whom I have never voted for.
Also, don't forget the flip side of this, as it isn't over yet: THANK GEORGE ALLEN!!!!

I wonder if Virgil could win at the state level. I mean, he's loved around here, but I wonder how his accent and folksy character would sell in NOVA and Tidewater.

I'm from Texas and I called Sen. Warner's office today and told his staff that I will be contributing financially to his opponent come election time.

I live in NOVA and would vote for him. Then again, my wife and I have similar accents and we're characters :D

Seriously though, I think he will do well if he runs.

Mr James -
My experience with Warner mirrors yours.. I've writen my own letters as well as taken VCDL/NRA/GOA letters, recast them in my own words, and I've always gotten a semi-arogant, condescending reply (if I've gotten a reply at all). I hope the SOB is retiring, 'cause his @$$ is grass in my book. I :barf: at teh thought of the fat pension he'll be getting:fire: :fire: :fire:

Warner is 77 years old, and he'll be 81 in 2008. I think he's retiring, and he can finally "vote his conscience" rather than pay lip-service to us hicks who keep him in office.

What really got me peeved was that when I wrote to Warner about the AWB, he responded with letters stating that while he "supports the Second Amendment" he's also "a father and a grandfather." It's pretty sad that he feels his duty as a Senator to uphold the Constitution conflicts with his role as "father and grandfather."

I've heard that he won't be running in 2008.

The AWB may still come before the Senate in some shape or form prior to 9/13/04.

These turncoat RINOs need to be told that as of today, they have lost your vote, but that *MAYBE* they could get it back if they vote "no on AWB renewal" if it comes up again.

Can't hurt to try; and make sure we keep pressure on the House too, just in case.

My personal opinion is we need to make this a *PARTY* issue as much as we can. Republicans SHOULD be against gun control. Durn RINOs!:banghead:

Course, I have to make it a Party issue. My Senators-for-life, Mikulski and Sarbanes, (both of whom are automatically re-elected at this point, and don't even have to campaign) sold their souls to the anti-gun lobby long ago.

Prior to moving to Colorado, I was the city committee chairman for the GOP in Portsmouth. I worked very, VERY hard to try to unseat Warner in 1996 when Jim Miller ran against him. We would have won, too, if Warner hadn't been able to force an open primary that year. If not for the Democrats invading the voting booth and casting ballots in his favor, he would have been sent packing. Miller had the support of 2/3's of the convention delegates that year, but the law allowed Warner to call for a primary rather than a nominating convention.

He's a joke, and a bad one at that.

And I would really love to see Virgil Goode run for his seat, primarily because if he doesn't then J. Randy Forbes most certainly will.

I was looking something up on the old TFL, and came across this thread.

In retrospect, this past week should have been no surprise.

Marty
