What a pain in the arse. How I wish we had a Nation Wide Concealed Carry Law.
We left the home town yesterday and made it to Libby MT the first night. Went through Idaho Legally, and then the Washington State Line. Unloaded , in closed opaque container's, mags unloaded and seperate (don't think the mags need to be unloaded). Anyways made it to Bellingham, and the motel room, and reloaded!

Very nice country, and very slow going. The Wife and I will be applying for our Non Resident Concealed Carry Permits while we are here! Will not be good for this trip, but will for the next.

I just get paranoid, being here and not being able to carry! I carry all the time, and feel defensless with out it. And then trying to make sure that I did all of my research on Washington 's laws, so my wife and I are legal here! What a headache.
Anyway going to meet my Dad, and maybe hit a range or two.

What are your vacation plans?

Tell me about it! I live in Oregon near the WA boarder and our states don't honor each other's permits. A lot of people live in one state and work in the other. We need national reciprocity bad. The requirements are basically the same in every state, why the problems?

I applied for a Florida and Utah permit at the same time that I appied for my Nevada CCW. With reciprocity, these 3 allow me to carry in around 30 or so states. If I know far enough in advance of a trip to one of the other states, I'll apply for a nonresident permit if available (for instance, if I'm planning to go to a conference). Most of my trips are to Virgina, Lousiana, and Florida, so I'm covered by mt current permits. However, I do sometimes travel tp Maryland, and the Peoples Republic of California. Not much hope either of those places. I do agree that there should be national reiprocity (if nothing else, it would save me money!).

states have to honor all other state issued licenses (or at the very least if there is one I am forgetting, most) CCW should be no different.

Washington State has to be applied for in Person. No mailing. It is Shall Issue, so we will apply now that we are here. Upto 60 days for a Non Resident Permit.

You might want to apply for a Utah nonresident permit instead. Utah's permits are honored in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming.

Florida, Michigan, and New Hampshire honor Utah permits held by Utah residents only.

Squawker, do those permits have to be done in person?
That would be a handy permit and a good air force buddy of mine and his family are moving to Utah soon. It would be nice to do it by mail but if it has to be in person it would be one more reason to visit them when they move!

Ah but they arent the same. Thats the problem. Some states require training, others require more exhaustive background checks, some dont require any permit at all, and still other dont issue them at all. Who's rules are going to count the most? If a person's home state was used that might be great for most, but I bet the people in LA would be kinda ticked that I could carry in their city with nothing more than a fingerprint card when they couldnt get a permit to save their lives.

No, you can apply by mail. When I took my CCW course here in Las Vegas, they offered the paperwork for Utah and Florida for a $5 extra charge. Since it saved me the slight inconvenience of actually calling Utah and Florida and having the forms mailed to me, I paid the money (ok, I agree, I'm lazy). You need to send the form, the fee, documentation of training, a picture, and a fingerprint card. Utah states that they may take up to 60 days to process, Florida says 90. My results were 30 days for Utah, just under 90 days for Florida.

"If you don't already have it look into the Florida permit. It has some of the best reciprocity of any permit."

Yep, I agree. I listed the states that honor Utah above. The states that honor Florida are: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wyoming.

Michigan and New Hampshire honor Florida permits held by Florida residents only.

Unfortunately, while Nevada permits are honored in Arizona, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas and Utah (Michigan honors Nevada permits held by Nevada residents only), Nevada does not offer reciprocity to any other state. Nonresident permits are available.

Come to think of it, as an Oregon resident it might be easier for you to apply for a non-resident permit from Utah by mail which is acceptable in Washington. Its stupid that one would have to do that, but it would actually be the easiest way to go if you dont want to have to find a sherrifs office in Washington.

Nightmare! I agree with the need for National License for CCW. Won't happen though.
Lucky for me, pretty much everything I care to see is within my state or close enough for reciprocity. The rest of the country? :neener: Been there, done that.

That seems to be only partially true. Driver's licenses are honored but licenses to practice medicine aren't, nor are licenses to cut hair. I don't know why some are and some aren't.
